Richard P. Ackerman

Ackerman, Richard P. Age 89 of Minneapolis, went to the lord and passed away peacefully on April 24th. Preceded in death by parents Phillip and Adele Ackerman and his oldest son Rick Ackerman. Survived by his wife Sally (married 67 years) and his two children, Brent (Michelle) and Scott and daughter-in- law Jody Ackerman: four grandchildren, Dan, Evan, (Mallari) Noah & Olivia and two great grandchildren, Kallin and Julian. Also survived by brother Charles and sister Phyllis. Born and raised in Mpls. MN, Rick was a past member of Lake Nokomis Presbyterian Church, Peace Presbyterian Church and Pilgrim United Methodist Church and is a Current member of Plymouth Presbyterian Church. He was a Graduate of Washburn H.S, (1952), The U of M and his beloved Macalester College. Rick was a member of the National Guard. He was a Boy Scout Leader for 41 years reaching the rank of Eagle scout. All three of his sons are Eagle scouts along with his three grandsons. He was also a brother of Compass Lodge # 265 in Robbinsdale and a member of R.A.S.C Shrine Club. Rick started in sales in 1963 and soon took over the family office supply business. After selling the business in 1983, he worked another 10 years at Business Essential before retiring. After retiring, He started a small craft business of making Bavarian Wax Art and he and Sally would go to craft fairs to sell their unique wax art. Rick loved to Paint, Sculp, Bake/Cook, Make Peanut Brittle, Wax Art, Wine, and Spending Time at the Cabin. He was a Member of the Purple Foot Club, making wine for over 50 years. Rick was an organizer and loved to run the pancake breakfasts to raise money for the Shriners Hospital. Memorial Service is Saturday, May 18th, 2024 at 11:00 am, at Plymouth Presbyterian Church, 3755 Dunkirk Ln., Plymouth, MN 55446. Visitation 1/2 hr before service and also afterwards with lunch. H. Peter Albrecht

Albrecht, H. Peter Peter Albrecht, 79, of Minneapolis, MN was born on November 27, 1944, died suddenly of a stroke on April 26, 2024. He is proceeded in death by his sister Martha Albrecht and his parents, Heine and Betty. Peter is survived by his two sisters, Gale Sharpe and Ann (Dodd) Cosgrove; his beloved daughters, Ana and Libby; his granddaughter, Ryeley; 2 step daughters, Gianna (Dan) and Luci Camorani; dear friend Charlie Kapp; in addition to many nieces, nephews and friends who adored him. Peter was a lawyer and then a judge in Hennepin County, MN until his retirement in 2009. Peter is remembered fondly as a man with a big heart, strong opinions (including his vitriolic hatred for vegetables), a great sense of humor and a love of playing a wide variety of instruments. His penchant for pranks is legendary among colleagues, friends and family. He is missed. Wherever he is, we are sure he is wearing one of his signature bowties, serenading a room with a guitar and plotting his next best prank. Service will be held on May 13th at Temple Israel at 2pm. Due to nearby construction and parking concerns, the family recommends arriving early. Matthew Albert Allen

Matt was born on May 5, 1954, Detroit MI. His loving parents were Edward and Marie Allen. Matt was the third of six kids born into a big Irish Catholic family with lots of cousins. He grew up a Detroit sports fan, loving the Tigers, Lions, Pistons (Bad Boys) and Red Wings and was a very good athlete himself. He was also a Benedictine High School student council officer (because he could get a free tux for prom) and a good student. He graduated from the University of Michigan and remained a Wolverines fan all his life. Matt was also known to his friends and siblings as Mott, Bo and Klaus. He moved to Minneapolis in 1980, rapidly became a successful business analyst, and had two beautiful daughters, Erin and Shauna. His mother Marie and three brothers soon relocated here from Detroit. He eventually became a Minnesota sports fan. He and Catherine met playing in a golf tournament in 2003 and married in 2007. He created the Shur Fire Fortune Cookie Art Car and drove in many local parades. He had an undeniable love of all things water and was always at the ready with his swim trunks in the car. He was known for his laissez-faire persona and charm, and some people in our family believe he may have been the inspiration for the Coen brothers' character, the Dude. He was a big fan of music (loud) and his 3 favorite songs in no particular order were Dear Prudence, Once in a Lifetime, and Foxy Lady. He also played enthusiastic guitar with his brother Tim and friend Tom D'Onofrio. Matt and Catherine were avid travelers, visiting Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Europe, Mexico and South America. Matt is survived by wife Catherine, daughters Erin Elizabeth and Shauna Rose and nephew Ben Allen; stepchildren Keith, Dan (Maggie), Anna Sherritt and grandson Lincoln; brothers and sisters Janet (Jim), Edward Patrick, Tim (Cathy), Liz, and brother John (Kaari), favorite cousin Maureen McAuliffe Hunter and Catherine's large and loving Todd Family. Matt passed away unexpectedly but peacefully 3/18/24 while vacationing in Mexico. He was fun-loving, and nonjudgemental. We loved him and will miss him dearly. Scott A. Antony

Scott Alan Antony, loving husband, father, brother, friend and mentor, was 61 when he passed peacefully on April 26th, 2024 after a long and inspiring battle against melanoma cancer. He leaves behind his wife and soulmate of 34 years,Virginia, daughters, Danielle and Kayle, and his son Brandon. His greatest joy in life was his family. The world was blessed with a true leader and coach the day he was born, June 5, 1962 to Mike and Mary Antony in New Ulm, MN. Scott was a proud and loyal brother to Dean, Gregg, Mona and Todd and valued family and his faith greatly. He was a true inspiration to many and made it his mission to live out his purpose: "to be a coach, that inspires, motivates, and educates others to find their best self," of which he will always be remembered as amongst colleagues, friends and family. A Mass will be held in Scott's honor on Friday, May 10th, 2024 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Wayzata at 11 AM with visitation starting at 10 AM followed by a celebration of life hosted at Birches on the Lake from 12:30-4PM. Sonja V.E. Ashner

Ashner, Sonja V.E. age 97, of Mpls., passed away on April 28, 2024. Preceded in death by beloved husband Milton; parents, Erland and Elvira Erlander; brothers, Stig and Earl. Survived by children, Karen (Robert) Henderson; Kathleen (Jerry) Wellik, Paul (Mindy) Ashner, and Svea (David) Grosz; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren. President of SVEA Interior Design Inc. for 28 years, Sonja earned her bachelor's degree in Interior Design from the U of M with extension classes in England, and was a member of International Furniture & Design Association (IFDA). Sonja was a skilled craftsperson, cook and educator, teaching cooking at Byerly's Gourmet Cooking School and design classes throughout the Twin Cities. A leader in her community, she started and led countless PTA, Scout, missionary, and church groups. Sonja loved to sing and was an accomplished artist and cook featured in the StarTribune. Loving wife, mother, mormor and friend, Sonja welcomed everyone into her heart and home. Her determined spirit, easy laughter, warm hugs and abiding faith will be greatly missed. Mary Ann Backman

Mary Ann Backman

76, of Eden Prairie, MN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on April 6, 2024.

Mary (Lehtinen) was born on June 7, 1947, to Eino and Helen (Sregzinski) Lehtinen in Virginia, MN. She spent her childhood in Mountain Iron, MN, until moving to New Hope. Mary was in the first graduating class at Cooper High School (Robbinsdale) in 1965.

Mary was joined in marriage to James Backman on February 10, 1967. Together, they welcomed two sons, Scott and Jeff. They made their home in Maple Grove, MN.

As a family, they cherished spending time during the summers on Lake Vermillion. Mary also enjoyed going to casinos, playing cards, shopping at garage sales, knitting, reading, bingo and playing with her grandchildren.

Mary was a courageous fighter who approached life's challenges with resilience and determination. Despite suffering a stroke in 2013, she continued to embrace life fully by attending family gatherings, going to dance recitals, and cheering for her grandkids at soccer, lacrosse and hockey games.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Jim Backman; her brother, David Lehtinen and her sister, Carol Pohto.

Mary is survived by her loving children: Scott Backman (Anjanette) and Jeff Backman (Sarah); her cherished grandchildren, Olivia and Evan Backman; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Mary will be held at Mississippi Crossings Event Center; 307 E. River Pkwy Champlin, MN. on Thursday, May 9th, 2024 at 3 PM with visitation one hour prior. Please join for refreshments and fellowship following the service.


James M. Barber

Barber, James M. age 91, of Shorewood passed away April 26, 2024. James owned and operated Barber Construction Co. for 38 yrs, retiring in 1998. He was a longtime member of the Masons and Zuhrah Shrine. He enjoyed softball, shuffleboard and Winters in FL. James was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. He is preceded in death by son, Jeff; daughter, Jane; parents and one brother. Robert J. Barry

Barry, Robert J. Age 87, of West St. Paul, passed away on May 4, 2024. Preceded in death by parents, James & Veronica (Finn) Barry; and brother- in-law, Thomas Heimerl. Bob grew up in Belmont, IA and graduated from Belmont H.S. He received a degree in math from Loras College and a degree in civil engineering from the University of Iowa. Robert Earl 'Bob' Blix

Blix, Robert Earl "Bob" (81) Born May 5, 1941, in Minneapolis, MN went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2023, in AZ. Graduating in 1959 from Roosevelt High, Bob was a star athlete for the Roosevelt Teddies, lettering in baseball, football, hockey, and ski jumping, and will be remembered as an outdoor enthusiast. He was instrumental in creating the Blizzard Ski Club to teach his passion for skiing and was proud to work with the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002. Golf became his next greatest passion in life, shooting his age at 79, and running golf leagues in AZ and WI. Bob was a member of the IBEW, succeeded in becoming estimator and part owner of Collins Electric after a 2-year stint working on the Alaskan pipeline. He retired at age 55, worked part-time, did electrical jobs for friends, and sold refurbished golf equipment. He lived his life to the fullest to the end, taught what he knew and was a continuous learner of every aspect of life. We will cherish all the memories he created and his loud laughter. Bob is preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Earl Blix, followed by his brother-in-law, Norm Swenson, and his life partner, Zaila Michelson. He is survived by his sister Jane Swenson, children Gary, Mike, (Lori), Sandy Boe (Scott), Brett, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and two nieces Carrie (Chris) Montgomery and Amy (Kris) Magnusson. Mary T. Boggie

Boggie, Mary T. age 91, of Golden Valley, MN, and formerly of Faribault, MN, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Sunrise of Golden Valley. Mary Therese was born on August 25, 1932, in Faribault, MN, the daughter of Martin and Elizabeth (Dandelet) Boggie. She graduated from Bethlehem Academy High School with the class of 1950. She continued her education at the College of St. Benedict, Mankato State University for teaching license, and later at St. Thomas University for her master's degree in education. Mary taught for 34 years in the private and public sector. She taught John F. Kennedy Jr. at St. David's School in New York City, and taught in Boston, Waseca, MN, Minneapolis, and St. Paul, retiring in 1998. Mary traveled extensively, traveling to six continents, and enjoyed music, concerts, and the opera. She also loved the arts and was interested in fashion. Mary was active at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Minneapolis and was devoted to her faith. She loved her cats, enjoyed meeting people, and was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her sister, Kate O'Neil; nieces, Sheila Reardon and Meghan Kincaid; nephews, John Reardon Jr., Mark O'Neil, Tom O'Neil, and John O'Neil; great nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Elizabeth; and her sister, Mona Reardon. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home, 1725 Lyndale Ave. N., Faribault. Doramae Bolduc

Bolduc, Doramae age 74 of Circle Pines passed away on April 28, 2024. Doramae was born October 23, 1949 in Mpls, MN to George and Dorothy Weller. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a cherished friend to many. She had a passion for life, family, friends, and was known for her kindness and sense of humor. She worked in medical records for many years at HCMC and Hennepin County jail. Anne Marie Bowen-Olson

Bowen-Olson, Anne Marie Age 100 of Edina. Formerly of Mpls and Bloomington. Preceded in death by husbands, John A. Bowen and Donald T. Gwendolyn M. Braff

Braff, Gwendolyn M. Age 90, of Minnetonka passed away April 15, 2024. Gwen was born in 1933 on a farm in Thompson, Iowa. She married John Braff in 1953 and they lived in Minnetonka for 58 years. Gwen was a preschool teacher at Jack and Jill Nursery School in Hopkins and at Oak Knoll Lutheran Church in Minnetonka. She loved teaching children, children's books, drawing, painting and gardening. Gwen is preceded in death by her husband John, parents Elmer & Jeniva Howe; and her sister, Sharan Frandle Boone. William Clemens 'Bill' Breer

Breer, William Clemens "Bill" died on March 10, 2024, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was born on May 22, 1935, in Mankato, the youngest child of Aloysius Breer and Orrel Thiers Breer. Bill attended Mankato High School, the Mankato State Teachers College Laboratory School, and graduated from Loyola Catholic School. He received a B.A. from Mankato State and did post-graduate work at the University of Minnesota in English History, followed by a sojourn in France. His lifelong career was books. He worked at Perine's Bookstore in Dinkytown, and then the University of Minnesota Bookstore, buying books for the store on general subject areas, helping hundreds and hundreds of book lovers, and collecting for himself thousands of books covering a vast range of subjects. His passions were foreign films and tennis, at which he excelled and played until he was in his early 80's. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jan Bounds Criley, his brother Francis "Bud" Bounds, and his wife Carol Fors Breer. He is survived by his life partner, Barbara Camm; son Christopher Breer; granddaughter Kalisha Scott; great grandchildren Eli, Kalil, and Timmy; niece Ann Cords Edgerton, grandnephew Per Anderson, grandniece Allyssa Edgerton, and great grandnephew Shiloh Person. The family thanks his loving and special caregivers, Tony Deel, Celia George, and Antinet Aigee, who enhanced his last years. Brinkman, Patrick J. Passed away peacefully on April 25th of cancer, age 76. Preceded in death by parents Ronald and Bonny and brother Jim. Survived by brothers Jeff, Dan and Mike, and sisters-in-law Nancy, Barb and Andi, Uncles Bob Brinkman, Tom Brinkman, and George Braunwarth, and many nieces and nephews. Retired from Hamlet and Smith. Vietnam war veteran. He was a good, honest man who had respect for all, and loved his family very much. Enjoyed fishing in Canada, snowmobiling, and golf. He will be greatly missed by his family, and his good friends. Service to be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in No. St. Paul on Thursday, May 9th. Leigh Bristol-Kagan

Leigh Bristol-Kagan, whose towering intellect and uncompromising nature were constants throughout a life dedicated to social justice that included early days with Martin Luther King Jr., academic excellence in Asian history, leadership in the anti-Vietnam War movement and assisting refugees to resettle in the United States, died on Feb. 28, 2024 at a long-term care center in Maplewood, MN. She was 84.

Leigh's work spanned many of the most dynamic and pressing issues of her era. She was a scholar and professor of Asian history. She spoke Chinese and Japanese, led trips to communist China and joined with colleagues to oppose U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. She changed careers in mid-life, and became a licensed clinical social worker, helping resettle refugees and asylees who came to the Twin Cities from Laos, Eritrea, Somalia, Eastern Europe and elsewhere.

Born Dorothy Leigh Bristol in Camden, NJ on Feb. 10, 1940, she grew up in Philadelphia, where she attended Germantown Friends School. She later won a scholarship to Smith College and went on to study at University of California, Berkeley and Harvard University, where she earned a PhD. Her parents, James "Jim" E. and Dorothy "Dee" (Miller) Bristol were Quakers, and her father was a pacifist who was a leader in the conscientious objector movement and the U.S. Civil Rights movement. Her mother ran the switchboard at Germantown Friends School. Leigh had a younger sister, Christina. The Bristols lived in India in the 1950s on a posting with the American Friends Service Committee. During that time, Jim organized Martin Luther King Jr.'s 1959 visit to India, and the two families stayed in touch thereafter. Leigh married fellow Asia scholar Richard C. Kagan in 1962. They had a daughter, Rachael Mei Kagan in 1965 and adopted a son, Jacob Ben Kagan, in 1970. With a job offer to teach at Hamline University, the family settled in St. Paul in 1973.

As a professor, Leigh inspired and captivated many students, colleagues and everyday people. She was always up for a lively political conversation -- at a restaurant, on the bus, at a parent-teacher conference, in a department meeting or from the lectern. She did not suffer fools and didn't mind making a scene. She loved to swear, had a loud laugh and an even louder sneeze.

Leigh's life encompassed complexity and contradiction. Despite struggles with depression and anxiety, owing to childhood trauma, she continued to challenge herself and others to make a difference, even when things didn't go as planned. After her divorce in 1982, finding herself without a teaching position, she took a job working for a house cleaning service. Soon, she turned to social work, assisting international refugees. Her second career took her to Lutheran Social Service, the Center for Victims of Torture, and then United Hospital, where she retired in 2008.

Leigh found her way back to religion in the second half of her life. Though she was raised in a religious home, she rejected that as a young woman and did not observe any faith during her marriage and child-rearing years. Leigh returned to the church on her own terms as a member of St. Paul's on-the-Hill Anglican Church, then the Episcopal Order of Julian of Norwich and finally at St. Anne's Episcopal Church. There she contributed a scholarly approach to Bible study and shared the conviction that religion is a source of justice and humanity, and a deliverer of peace, qualities she sought all her life.

Leigh is survived by her daughter Rachael and son Jacob "Jake," grandson Henry Kagan Rowe, son-in-law Tim Rowe, sister Christina Bristol and niece Tara Mullaney.

Donations in Leigh Bristol-Kagan's memory can be made to the Center for Victims of Torture in St. Paul or St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Sunfish Lake.


Richard John Brix

Richard John Brix, of Golden Valley, age 67. God took Richard home to heaven on Monday, April 29, 2024, as his family surrounded him with love.

Preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Richard Brix, he is survived by his brother Tom, sister Cheri, his uncle Robert Brix, of Clara City, cousins and many friends.

Richard suffered far too long with cancer and the horrible effects of it. He attended Totino-Grace High School and Northwest Community College. He was employed at Parsons Electric, Equifax, Halek's, and became Service Manager for the Municipal Government in Robbinsdale.

Richard enjoyed duck hunting with his father, water skiing and ski-jumping with his longtime friend Hank Longo, and downhill skiing in Vail every year with his family. He loved his home, planting tomatoes there, the MN Twins, and playing Cribbage and "watching" the lake with his neighbor and best friend, Floyd Anderson.

Love you, Richard. Kisses. We miss you so already, but you will always live in our hearts! Please God take good care of him now until we see him again! Our thanks to the many doctors and nurses at Fairview SD hospital who took such good care of Richard, but especially to Dr. Singla. He is our hero!

Dr Linda Marie Carlstedt

Carlstedt, Linda Marie 82, passed away peacefully on 4.22.24, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born 7.21.41 to Elmer and Marie (Roerig) Carlstedt, Linda launched into life with the same courage she would later face her cancer. Uncommon for her era, after graduating Roosevelt HS, '59, she earned a BA, Augsburg, '63, and a MS, '65, & PhD, '68, University of Tucson, all in mathematics. She taught as a grad student and then, upon graduating, at Old Dominion in Norfolk, VA, before moving back to MN. Here she worked in several statistical analyst roles for the State for over 20 years, before retiring in 1998. Linda was a volunteer for AARP and a philanthropist. A life-long learner, Linda also enjoyed gardening, the orchestra, theater, casino, and time spent with others. She was loved by many. Survived by nieces/nephew Stacy (Tom), Juli (Jeff), Jeff; great-nephews/nieces Mike (Amanda), Jesse (Savannah), Shaina (Dan), Will (Taura), Carol (Kevin), Chelsea (Jordan); cousins Jeanne, Jennifer; and second-cousin Reese (Tianna); among many others. Carson, Richard R. Died April 28, 2024, from natural causes. Born Oct. 23, 1936 in Pipestone, MN to Stuart and Una Belle Carson. Survived by nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, his wife Beverly, and brother Robert. He graduated from Pipestone High School and the University of Minnesota earning a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. His life changes and he became whole in 1972 when he married his beloved wife Beverly. He worked for 3M for over 33 years in various departments of the Chemical Div. Erickson, rubye Anne Age 90 of Golden Valley previously from Edina. Preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Emery Erickson. Survived by her stepdaughters Janice Miller and Nanci (Jeff) Shapiro. Grandchildren Noah (Jennifer Saunders) Miller, Carissa Miller, Beth (Scott Boscapomi) Shapiro and Dan (Nicole) Shapiro. Also, by great grandchildren Emily and Anna Shapiro, Solomon and Benjamin Boscapomi and Meyer Miller. She had a graduate degree in Family Social Studies and identified herself as a Home Economist. She taught in Wayzata schools for a number of years, won a contest to cook with Julia Child and taught gourmet cooking classes from home. She was self-employed as a Color Me Beautiful Consultant and for many years was a Life Coach. rubye and Emery Erickson married in 1973. Traveling was especially important to them. They enjoyed exchanging homes with people around the world through Friendship Force and attended various Elder Hostel International experiences. They were also avid skiers and served for ten years on the Ski Patrol at Welch Village. rubye was a knitter supporting the Mother Bear Project which sent the knitted bears to Africa for children affected by AIDS. She loved to dress glamorously in sequins which earned her the nickname Glitzy Grammie. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Entertaining family, friends and 'friends to be' was a joy for her and a chance to use her cooking skills. Esmay, Lola "Sally" On May 3, 2024, at 103 years old, Lola "Sally" Esmay passed away gently and peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones. She changed her earthly address to a heavenly one and is now with the love of her life, Don, and her beloved granddaughter, Jolie. Sally was born on August 13, 1920, in South Dakota, to John and Laura (nee Culver) Swanson. Married her true love Donald Esmay in 1945 and raised their 6 children for 6 decades in Coon Rapids. Sally was preceded in death by husband, Don, and her dear granddaughter, Jolie Bialke. Left to honor her legacy are her six children: Joel (Suzette) Beck-Esmay, Julie (Al) Hawkinson, John (Deborah) Esmay, Joni (Kevin) Hogie, Jani Esmay Bialke, Jay (Leticia) Esmay; her other 18 grandchildren and her 19 great-grandchildren. She attributed her long life to faith and family (and wine before dinner). Faiella, Diana Kay 08/22/1942-12/25/23 Diana was born & raised in Minneapolis, MN. She lived and raised her family on Fremont Street in South Minneapolis near the chain of lakes. Diana was a homemaker in her first marriage eventually forging a career in liberal activism working for the MN Tenants Union and as a social worker for Lutheran Social Services where she eventually retired after 25 years. Her work in liberal activism and social services demonstrates her commitment to helping others and making a difference in the world. The last 6 years of her life she lived with daughter Stephanie in Southern California until her passing in a care home on Christmas day, 2023 at the age of 81. She is survived by her children, Corey Boeck, Lenne Anastasia Faiella, Stephanie Alexandria Faiella, brother Peter G. Tarasar , sister Catherine Tarasar, son-in-law Andre Rothblatt & cousin Carol Leonerd. Diana is preceded in death by her parents Mary and Peter Tarasar, husband William K. Hill of 33 years & 1st husband Jerry Faiella. Diana had a bigger than life personality and possessed the gift of storytelling that could evoke laugher & tears in equal measure. Her happy place was at the Lake House that she and husband Kirk built from the ground up, where she would garden, swim in the lake and cross-country ski in the winters. She was an avid reader and animal lover who enjoyed the outdoors & nature. Diana lived life on her terms and had a big impact on those around and who knew her. She will be sorely missed; may her memory be a blessing.

Carole Fisher - Feminist, Leaves Legacy as an Artist, Educator & Environmental Advocate!

February 20, 1939 - April 5, 2024

Carole was a private person whose contributions to the field of art, education, the environment and her neighborhood leaves a remarkable public record of her view of the world and her neighborhood in times of transition and change. As a child growing up in south Minneapolis, she and her sister were raised by two parents whose work ethic helped shape her. Early in Carole's childhood she discovered the world of art through classes at the Minneapolis Institute of Art and never looked back. She was a respected artist, and beloved faculty member, and Professor Emerita at MCAD, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

Carole's sense of discovery and preservation were only a few of the lenses through which she presented her view of the world. Carole had a fierce commitment to justice and empowerment as evidenced by her major pieces of work including the "Sticks In The Mind" Alaska Oil Spill Project and "The Terrible Dresses".

Carole, a mutimedia artist worked primarily, but not exclusively, with issue-driven installations. Her career started early designing graphics for the Taste Section of the Star Tribune and she never stopped clipping articles and recipes from many newspapers.

Carole's work has been included in group and solo exhibitions including Galleria Del Cavallino, Venice, Italy; Whitney Museum of American Arts (Mia); Milwaukee Art Museum; ARC, Chicago, Brooklyn Museum; Soho 20 Gallery; New York; Woman's Building Los Angeles and Rourke Art Gallery, Moorhead, MN. She served as panelist for the Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program (MAEP); and Minneapolis City Arts Commission. She was a founding member of the Women's Art Resources of Minnesota (WARM).

A lifelong resident of Minneapolis, most recently in the Washburn-Fair Oaks historic district, where she participated every year at National Night Out, contributing sweet corn from the Midtown Farmer's Market.

Carole was pre-deceased by her parents Elsie (Winterfeldt) and Leo Gorney and her sister, Diane Gorney. She is survived and grieved by her cousins, dear friends and former students and Swycz, the wonder cat.

Her family, friends, colleagues, neighbors and students will join at a Celebration of Life at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), 2501 Stevens Ave. Minneapolis, June 9, 2:00 pm. Andrew John Furlong

In loving memory of Andrew John Furlong, who departed our lives on April 24, 2024. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Andy, who left an indelible mark on all the people who knew and loved him. He was born on May 13, 1971 in Edina, MN to John and Itti Furlong.

Throughout his life, Andy was smart, quick witted, funny, gentle, and armed with an amazing memory. He loved music and sports, especially tennis, and in his later years eagerly tracked and watched Minnesota teams of all varieties. Most of all, he loved his family ... Furlongs, Hartigans, Hogans & all their offshoots both near and far.

Andy's life was extraordinary, but not without struggle. As a young man, he was diagnosed with a type of schizophrenia that primarily encompassed disordered communication. More recently he battled the impact of severely diseased organs, facing all these hardships with admirable bravery and strength. He navigated them with support from his family and caring mental health professionals from M Health Fairview throughout his life and most recently with both the Southdale and University of Minnesota hospitals, and in particular with guidance from the University of Minnesota Solid Organ Transplant team. Despite the work of these kind, amazing specialists and Andy's fortitude, his body couldn't win the battle.

Andy lived well in the face of challenge, turning hardships into blessings in unexpected ways. He opened eyes to the world of mental health, providing insight that brought out acceptance, empathy and courage in others. To know Andy was a privilege and may his legacy inspire greater compassion and open mindedness.

Andy is survived by parents, John and Coletta Furlong, Edina, MN; sister Aileen Caffrey (Henry), Chicago, IL; sister, Jonna Hirsch (Brent), and niece and nephew Clare and Bennett Hirsch, Minnetonka, MN.

Jeanne Traun Grace

Grace, Jeanne Traun Jeanne Traun Grace was born October 24, 1931, to Alfred (Al) and Jeanette Traun in Minneapolis, MN. Jeanne was raised as an only child attending schools in the Twin Cities and graduating from Thomas Edison High School class of 1949. Jeanne was well-liked by her classmates and excelled in music, singing and many art disciplines. Her first known performance was on May 27, 1943, at Saint Anthony's Convent, Jeanne sang Finlandia and The Booklet arranged by Ecksteine. Jeanne was 11 years old at the time. On December 10, 1948, Jeanne was the only vocal soloist on the Edison High School Christmas concert program and sang No Candle Was There, and No Fire by L Lehman. Jeanne's mother Jeanette noted on her program "this is the night we found out Jeanne had a voice." The following Spring, Jeanne joined the original Shiek's Singing Sextet performing at Schiek's Restaurant in Minneapolis. This started a life-long pursuit of vocal study and performances in opera, oratorio and in concert. Jeanne won the Miss Minnesota competition in 1950 and competed in the Miss America pageant that same year. Shortly thereafter she married Captain William Murat Parker, Jr and from that union, three children were born: Shelley Jeanne, Heather Anne, and William M. (Rett) Parker III. Jeanne and William were divorced in May, 1960 while living in Seattle, WA. Shortly thereafter, Jeanne began singing in the Seattle area and in October, 1961, Jeanne met her future husband Neil Michael Grace while singing with Seattle Chorale. Jeanne also performed with Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera, Leonard Moore Chorale, and the Seattle Clarion Chorus. In 1962, Jeanne won second place in the Northwest Regional Metropolitan Opera Auditions in Seattle. The next year she won the San Fransisco Opera Debut Auditions securing a contract with the opera company for the following year. Jeanne moved her family to San Fransisco to study and perform with the opera company for a year and Neil joined her to offer support and encouragement. While in the Bay area, Jeanne sang in numerous concerts, recitals and operas including the San Francisco Symphony, San Fransisco Opera, Redwood City Symphony Orchestra, and the West Coast Metropolitan Opera earning a review by Edward R. Frisbie of the San Fransisco Examiner stating "Miss Parker sang with technical facility and beauty of tone which proved near hypnotic in effect. She is an imposing figure on stage and projects her voice with fine dramatic emphasis." Jeanne and Neil were married on June 24, 1965, in Minneapolis and purchased a new home in west Bloomington, this would become the family home for the next 40 years. Jeanne enjoyed critical acclaim while performing in the Minnesota area and perfecting her craft. During this time, she performed with St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Mankato Symphony, Bach Society, Minnesota Opera, Schubert Club, St. Paul Opera, Apollo Club, Thursday Musical, St. Mark's Cathedral Church, Mankato Symphony, Minnesota Chorale, Minnesota Orchestra, Temple Israel, and the Women's Club. Additionally, Jeanne was a respected voice teacher at Hamline University for nine years and adjunct voice professor at Bethel University. She also taught privately for nearly 40 years, with several of her students achieving significant success in the vocal and performance disciplines. Jeanne was a beautiful, intelligent, creative, and loving force of life that appreciated the arts, sacred and classical music, as well as jazz and traditional pop music. She and Neil created a lovely home in Bloomington, where she raised prized roses for Jackson & Perkins, prepared gourmet meals, mastered the art of needlework, and had a deep love for house cats as well as big cats, and almost every imaginable species of wildlife. Jeanne lost her youngest daughter Heather in 2004, which caused Jeanne and Neil to relocate to a new home in the mountains of Western Montana. Jeanne continued to sing on occasion and teach privately in her home studio, although the onset of dementia started to rob her of an incredible vocabulary. Like most opera singers, Jeanne sang in eight different languages. Following Neil's death in December 2019, Jeanne's oldest daughter Shelley moved to Montana to care for her declining mother. The two were inseparable for two and a half years until Shelley's health required her to return to Minnesota and allow her immediate family to care for her. Shelley passed away in November 2022 from her illness. Jeanne passed away on January 13, 2024, at age 92 as her big, beautiful heart beat its last and end-stage dementia took her to join her loved ones and sing with the angels. Jeanne is survived by her son William M. (Rett) Parker (Charlee) and grandchildren Bach (Ela), Lara (Jake), Leah (Jose'), Nicholas, Jessica, and seven great grandchildren (Mara, Rett, Fia, Gigi, Letty, Jude, and Kaia). Jeanne is also survived by her special cousins, The Treasured Traun Tribe and their families. A dual graveside service for Jeanne and Neil is planned for May 10, 2024, at 12:15, Resurrection Cemetery, 2101 Lexington Ave S, Mendota Heights, MN. To celebrate two lives well-lived, a hosted reception follows from 1:00 to 4:00 at Axel's Restaurant, 1318 Sibley Memorial Hwy, Mendota, MN. Marjorie Nelson Guenther

Guenther, Marjorie Nelson age 104, was born in Coleharbor, ND, on 10-21-1919 to Mabel & Leon Nelson. She died in Minnetonka, MN on 3-14-2024. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Byron, Lois, Kay, Arthur, Audrey; and her beloved husband Floyd (Ske), her high school sweetheart & soulmate. Together they loved & raised three children, and delighted in their marriages & in the grandchildren who followed. Marge is survived by her sister Carol; her children Susan (Steve) Young, Steve (Jean) & Joel (Katie); grandchildren Joe, Annie (Ramsey) Peterson, Shannon (Josh) Wegner, Kyle (Brendan) Flanagan, Grant (Megan), & Anne (Tair) Akmejanov; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Gustafson, Harvey L. age 90, of Minneapolis passed peacefully on March 27, 2024. He was a kind and gentle man. Harvey was an extremely talented organist and music teacher who brought joy to so many people throughout his career. He will be forever missed. Private services have been held.


Roger Ernest Gustavson

Gustavson, Roger Ernest of Eden Prairie, MN, passed away at home with his family present, on April 22, 2024. He had prostate cancer which had been dormant for 24 years. Roger was born on May 7, 1939 to Ernest and Olga Gustavson in Minneapolis, MN. After graduating from University High School in 1957, Roger went on to study history and psychology at the University of Minnesota, receiving his degree in 1961. In May of 1964, Rog married his longtime love, Carol, and they enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage filled with love and adventure. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Christina and Carin. Rog was profoundly proud of his children and grandchildren. Family was his greatest joy. His career in airlines led him to live in many states, including CO, AK and WA where he was able to take advantage of the outdoor pursuits he enjoyed: boating, skiing, fishing and hunting alongside the dogs that he loved so much. He was a loyal friend who will be missed for his quick wit, positive attitude and knack for detailed storytelling. Roger is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol, his daughter Christina Passaretti (David) of Darien, CT, his daughter Carin Gustavson of Stamford, CT, and his two adoring grandchildren, Anna and Drew. He was predeceased by his mother, Olga Kristina Hansson, his father Ernest Henning Gustavson (both from Sweden) and his sister Virginia Margareta Paige. Memorial gifts are welcome, but not necessary. Hagen, Thomas Edward age 83, passed. away April 30, 2024. Preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Helen Hagen, and brother Richard Hagen. Survived by his beloved wife of over 56 years, Julie: son Thomas E. Hagen Jr. of San Tan Valley, AZ; daughter, Heather Marie Hagen Freeman (Chad) of Gilbert, AZ; grandchildren Kalie Marie Hagen, and Ethan Thomas Hagen; nephew Robert E. Scott;, niece Machelle Ishman; grandniece Jessica Scott Toppari; grandnephew Bobby Scott; numerous friends and colleagues and his beloved companion pet, Attie. Tom grew up in Mound MN, graduated Mound High School '59, attended the University of Minnesota graduating with a Bachelors of Electrical Engineering, Institute of Technology in '65. Active in Boy Scouts, he attained his Eagle Scout ranking. Tom worked as an electrical engineer designing computer systems, military and aerospace systems. He was part of the team for Voyager Spacecraft 1&2 and drone projects for Mars landings. Tom was a competitive figure skater passing his Gold Pair test in 1965, twice Upper Great Lakes Senior Pairs Champion and competed at Nationals in1965 and 1967. He was a judge with the USFSA for over 50 years and continued to skate recreationally with a local Dance Group until recently. He was a ham radio operator and poet. Tom was an avid runner and participated in 5K's and a few marathons. Memorial gathering to be announced. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.


Alberta Marie Hall

Hall, Alberta Marie went to her heavenly home on April 30, 2024 at the age of 95. She was born on February 25, 1929, in Moline, IL. Alberta grew up during the depression and was the youngest of ten children. She completed High School in Sacramento, CA during WW II, and then returned to Moline, IL. After moving to Minneapolis, she met her husband, Orvin, and they raised their family in Edina, MN. They also enjoyed a cabin on Lake Miltona near Alexandria, MN. Retirement years allowed them to enjoy time in the Rio Grande Valley in TX. Alberta moved to Sandpoint, ID to be near her daughter. She was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband Orvin J. Hall, and a devoted mother to her children Barbara (Hall) Hult and Peter Hall. As a busy homemaker and mother, there was always fresh coffee and homemade treats for all visitors. She was known for her kindness and prayers. Alberta became a serious Bible student and faithfully attended church. She brought the love of the Lord Jesus to her family and friends. She is survived by her children: Barbara (Bryan) Hult, Peter (Diane) Hall, grandchildren: Katy (Matt) Hazard, Colin (Karen) Hall, Renner Hall, and great-grandchildren: Sarah, Emma, and Liberty, who will miss her dearly. A memorial service will be held in Minneapolis later this summer. She will be interred with her husband at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Hanson, Robert John age 58, of St. Anthony, MN passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024. Robert was born in Staples, MN on October 25, 1965 to Eleanor and Louis Hanson. LeRoy F. Heuer

Heuer, LeRoy F. Our beloved LeRoy (Lee) Heuer passed away March 22, 2024 in Bradenton, Florida. He suffered from congestive heart failure and kidney disease. He was surrounded at the hospice by his family that he cared so much about. His life was filled with love, joy, and passion for everything he was involved in. LeRoy Heuer was born on April 3, 1937 to his parents, Orville and Mary (Saloka) Heuer at a hospital in Frederic, WI. His middle name was named for this town. Orville passed away when he was 3 and he was raised by his mother. He grew up in Hinckley, MN where he met his high school sweetheart Lorelei Bartel. He was very involved in sports. He was all-conference in basketball and baseball and he also played football and ran track. He also loved to fly model airplanes off the roof of the high school across the street from his house. As a child, he joined the Boy Scouts and later achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was a camp counselor. He went to college at UM-Duluth until Lorelei graduated from nursing school. They got married in 1958 and moved to the Twin Cities for her job at UM Hospitals. He started his job working as a chemical technician at General Mills Chemicals (later bought out by Henkel). Lee and Lori bought a trailer home and moved into Lowry Grove in St. Anthony Village where his son, Wayne was born in 1959. Two years later, he traded the trailer home for a duplex in Columbia Heights. Two years after that, he traded the duplex for an apartment building in NE Mpls and his son, Vern was born. Two years after that, he built a house on Silver Lake in St. Anthony Village, pursuing his life long dream of being a pilot. Unfortunately, at 29, he was too old to be hired by Northwest Airlines. So, he joined a flying club and became a flight instructor and commercial pilot on the side while continuing to work at General Mills.He helped coach his boys in St. Anthony Village Sports Boosters and was the scout master in Boy Scout Troop 153 for many years. He was instrumental in planning and taking scouts on high adventure camping trips in the Wyoming mountains and canoe trips to the Boundary Waters. Lee and Lori loved to travel, ski, and golf. They took the family on many ski trips to the mountains and skied in most, if not all the mountain states. They bought a Winnebago to help with both the ski trips and to see the country. They loved seeing the amazing beauty of our national parks. After the boys graduated from high school, Lee and Lori bought a timeshare in Hawaii and spent 6 weeks of their winters enjoying the wonderment of Hawaii.Later, on when Lori couldn't fly so far, they wintered in Phoenix until her death. After that Lee sold his house in St. Anthony Village and he and his son Vern moved to Bradenton, FL to be closer to his other son Wayne. He enjoyed playing bridge, hanging out swimming at the pool and being with family. Lee was preceded in death by his father, Orville Heuer and mother Mary Heuer, wife Lorelei, and son Vern. He is survived by his son Wayne (Anne) Heuer and his grand children Jeff (Denise) Heuer, Travis Heuer, Derek Heuer, and Isabella Heuer. Larry Randall Holmboe

Larry Randall Holmboe, 84, of Modesto, California, passed away on April 23, 2024. A dedicated and hard-working individual, Larry was born on February 5, 1940, in Minneapolis, MN. He proudly served with honor in the United States Marine Corps. After his military service, he pursued a successful career in the food sales business for over 50 years, eventually becoming the owner of his own sales and distributing company. Larry was a people-oriented individual who enjoyed fishing, traveling, target practice, and was an avid supporter of the 2nd Amendment. His love for outdoor activities and commitment to his hobbies were evident in his everyday life. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Holmboe, his children John, Tracy, Jason, and Joshua Holmboe, sister Carolyn Dahl, brother John Holmboe (Sally), 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Randall and Beatrice Holmboe, as well as his daughters Lorrie and Shelly Holmboe. Carole Ann Hoopman

Carole Ann (Kreuger) Hoopman passed away unexpectedly Monday, April 29 at the age of 78. Carole was born January 31, 1946, in Austin, MN and after spending many years in River Falls, WI she had resided at Walker Methodist Garden in Anoka, MN for the last year and a half. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Virginia Kreuger of Austin, MN. Carole is survived by her husband Timothy and three children: LeeAnn (Hoopman) and Mike Ross of Anoka, MN, Melissa (Hoopman) and Todd Ellis of Peosta, IA, and Jason Hoopman and Carol (Graf) Hoopman of Anoka MN. Carole is also survived by six grandchildren, Laurin Ross, Timothy Ross, Hannah (Ellis) Walek, Evan Ellis, Macee Ellis, and Isabelle Hoopman. She is survived by six siblings: Judy Nelson, Janice Ball, Sandra Lund, Brenda Miller, Rhonda Helfritz and Alan Kreuger. Carole was a multitalented woman who enjoyed cooking, quilting, playing English handbells, card playing, bowling and dancing. Her favorite passion was Norwegian Rosemaling, which she did beautifully. Outdoors she enjoyed ice skating, tennis, fishing, shooting, softball, and gardening. Linda Jean Hoover

Hoover, Linda Jean aged 75, passed away on the 20th of April, 2024. A native of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, born on May 20, 1948, she departed this life in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She lived a fulfilling life and was a longtime educator and political organizer. In her spare time, she was an avid reader of historical and materialist text and an adventurous traveler. Having visited each of the contiguous United States and countries on multiple continents, she always made it a point to venture off the beaten path and see how the everyday people lived by hearing their stories and learning of their struggles through adversity. In her post-retirement day-to-day, when she was not reading or keeping up with world events, she was a regular walker and swimmer, allowing as much time in the sun as possible. She was always open and willing to show up to lend a helping hand to family and friends, in almost any capacity, near or far. Preceded by parents Lottie and Jennings Oliver Hoover, and sister Amelia Hoover, she is survived by her son, Omari Hoover; her sisters, Connie Kirby and Rebecca Hoover; and her brothers, Bruce Hoover and Ollie Hoover. Huntley, Rose Lucille Bigelow November 14, 1939 May 1, 2024 Rose, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend died peacefully at the age of 84, surrounded by her family saying final goodbyes and prayers commending her spirit to the love of God. Rose was a lifelong learner and teacher, with a love of music, nature, birds, and springtime. Rose worked as a spiritual director and, early on, as a math and English school teacher and religious education teacher. She volunteered at her church on the church council, for local grass-roots politics, and as a team manager for her children's school swim team. Family and friends gathering at her home in the spring, summer and fall would enjoy Rose's beautiful garden. Rose was creative, witty, and known for her independence and sense of humor. Loved ones often describe her as one of a kind. Rose loved spending time with her grandkids and made the best soufflé and caramel rolls ever! Rose was recently preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Jack. Huspeni, Michael John age 57, passed away on April 25. Beloved son of Terrance and Mary. Survived by brothers John (Meredith), David, Patrick (Dawn) and sister Molly. Mike graduated from Highland Park Senior High in 1985, attended the University of MN, and earned a degree from NEI (now Dunwoody). He worked at Lund's, was an air traffic controller with the FAA, and worked at Andersen Corp. He also volunteered for local film societies. Mike loved family gatherings, puzzles, games, but most of all movies. He saw hundreds of movies a year, for many decades. Mike had a private pilot's and soaring license. Molly Susan (Dorsey) Huyber

Huyber, Molly Susan (Dorsey) Age 60, passed away peacefully at her home in Burnsville on April 21, 2024, with her husband John by her side. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2015. Molly was born in Minneapolis on February 11, 1964 to John and Beverly Dorsey and was raised in Bloomington MN, the 5th of 6 children. With both sets of her grandparents in Montevideo MN, she enjoyed many childhood trips back to Monte for the Holidays and other large family gatherings with her many cousins and aunts/uncles. Molly attended Bloomington Lincoln HS and was in the school's last graduating class of 1982. She was active in Young Life during her high school years. She then attended St. Olaf College (Northfield MN) and graduated in 1986 with a BA in Mathematics/Economics. She made many wonderful and lifelong friends at St. Olaf and it's also where she met her husband John. They started dating shortly after graduating and were married in April 1988. Most of her career was in IT where she was a highly respected and well-liked employee at Old Republic National Title Insurance Company for over 30 years. In 1995 she and John traveled to Bogota Colombia to adopt their son Alexander. In 1999, they again traveled to Colombia to adopt their daughter Carly. Molly loved being a mother and cherished every moment of it. Whether it was at sporting events, school music programs, dance recitals, camping trips, birthday parties at Camp Snoopy, a trip to Disney World or cabin time at the lake, she was in heaven being a mom. She was also a beloved wife and best friend to her husband John. They were blessed to have 36 wonderful years together in marriage. Molly's self-proclaimed "Happy Place" was at the cabin on Garfield Lake. She loved everything about it, except the occasional mouse sighting. Marco Island FL was another place she loved to visit with family and friends. She loved to be near the water and listen to the loons at the lake or the sound of the ocean waves on the beach. She was preceded in death by her father, John and nephew Danny Nelson. Tragically, her mother Bev passed away just 40 hours after Molly, essentially of a broken heart. Molly is survived by her husband John; children, Alex and Carly; siblings Jenn (Jim) Phillips, Brad Dorsey, Paul (Nancy) Dorsey, Katie Nelson, Dan (Pascal) Dorsey; numerous nieces/nephews, cousins and aunts/uncles. Molly had a strong faith in God and never gave up hope that she would get her miracle of healing from Him. She fought her cancer like a warrior and endured many treatments and setbacks that would have brought most people to their knees. Her passing leaves a tremendous hole in the hearts of her family and friends and she will be greatly missed. She was beautiful, loving, fun, warm and kind. The family wishes to thank Dr. Peter Argenta at the M Health Fairview Masonic Cancer Clinic and the staff at Brighton Hospice for their compassionate care of Molly. Private services have been held. Thomas Hyland

Hyland, Thomas age 87, of Robbinsdale, MN, passed away on April 30, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. Tom was the most loving husband and father a family could ask for. He married the love of his life, Barbara Plancon, 61 years ago after meeting her on a blind date. Barb was the center of his universe, and he was devoted to her until the end. They had 8 children, of whom he was very proud and bragged about often. He was a gentle soul who loved spending time with family, especially grandchildren, whom he babysat often. Tom also enjoyed making his famous banana bread, reading Vince Flynn books, playing football with his family on Thanksgiving and making trips to the casino, where he loved to listen to the music when he got a big win. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and children Michael (Katsuyo), Lisa (Tom) Kirscht, Lynn, Patrick (Vickie), Kevin (Tricia), Ann, Diana, and Kelly, 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Diana Kay Jacobson

Jacobson, Diana Kay On April 22, 2024, Diana Kay Jacobson was called home and set free from all her Earthly suffering. Diana Kay Matson was born on March 2, 1958, in Moorhead, MN to parents Harlan and Vivian Matson. The fourth of what would become six children, Diana was given the nickname DeeDee by her youngest brother and it would stick with her until her last day. DeeDee (or Dee) as she was called by her numerous friends and associates over the years, was remarkedly intelligent and knew how to make everyone feel special. She graduated a semester early from Moorhead High School in 1976 and soon after met and married the love of her life, Mark Stephen Jacobson. Their first and only child, Christina Marie, was born December 1976. After Diana and Mark both completed their degrees at Moorhead Tech, the family moved to Bloomington, MN for work. Diana worked in banking her entire career, starting with Northwestern Bank, Norwest Bank and finally, Wells Fargo. Diana found great professional success, despite a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis in 1982. Over the years, her disease would cause many physical, mental, and emotional ups and downs. Dee would take each occurrence in stride while continuing to advance professionally, simultaneously enjoying time with friends and family. In 1996, Dee's MS progressed, forcing her to retire and go on full time disability. In 2003, Mark and Dee would both retire full time in the home they built on Pearl Lake in Detroit Lakes, MN. Through careful planning, strength, and perseverance, the couple were able to remain together in their home until Dee's passing. Mark never returned to work and continued to be by his beloved's side and her best friend until the very end. Diana was survived by her husband of 47 years, Mark, her daughter, Christina Brun (Matt), Sisters: Brenda Aaser, Linda Hamm, brothers: Bruce Matson (Marcy), Dale Matson and Lee Matson (Ruth). Dee was met in death by her parents, Harlan and Vivian, Brothers-in-law, Bill and Steve, her loving grandparents, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Per Dee's final wishes, no immediate funeral service will be held. She desired to be cremated and a Celebration of Life be held during the summer in her honor and remembrance. Susan 'Sue' (Edstrom) Jubert

Jubert, Sue (Edstrom) was born in Minneapolis on January 25, 1958 and left her earthly body on April 22, 2024 at the age of 66 due to complications from dementia. She passed away peacefully with family at her side. Sue graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis in 1976 and attended St. Mary's Junior College (Mpls.). She obtained her RN credentials and initially worked as a hospital-based nurse in Minneapolis before spending the majority of her career at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota as a case manager. Even as dementia gradually eroded her cognitive faculties, Sue's innate capacity for compassion and caregiving remained untouched. Despite the challenges posed by her illness, she continued to exude love and laughter with a gentle hug or smile. Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Pauline Edstrom. Rita Ines (Yriart) King

King, Rita Ines (née Yriart) 77, of Wayzata, Minnesota passed away Thursday April 18, 2024 from congestive heart failure. Born in New York City and raised in the U.S., Mexico, and Portugal, Rita traveled throughout Europe and South America before settling down in Dearborn, Michigan to raise her family. Rita loved learning. She attended Bryn Mawr College and University of Michigan, earning a BA in Art History and an MBA before embracing her passion for education as a paraprofessional in the Dearborn Public Schools. After battling cancer as a young adult, Rita was thrilled to meet her husband William Allen King, who helped her through the fear of coming out of remission. Through their mutual love and loyalty, she achieved a dream she thought she would never realize: building a family of her own. Rita loved being a wife and mother more than anything. Her greatest joy was raising children, and out of all the places she lived, the home she made with her husband in Dearborn was her favorite. She delighted in taking her children to museums and spent many afternoons sharing with them her love of art at the Detroit Institute of Arts and her interest in history at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. Her love of learning is a legacy that she left to her children and the students that she taught. Rita's final years were spent with her daughter and husband in Minnesota. In her retirement, she enjoyed birdwatching, afternoons at her health club, and corresponding with her many relatives in the United States and in Argentina. She loved speaking Spanish and made fast friends with neighbors and business owners who shared her heritage. Rita is survived by her husband, William Allen King Sr., her son, William Allen King Jr., her daughter, Kathleen May Vandevoorde (née King), and her brothers, Richard Yriart and Robert Yriart.


Mrs. Barbara Ann Koch

Barbara passed away January 2024, in California, aged 85. Born in Minneapolis to Anthony H. & Bernice M. Babich. Barb is preceded in death 38 years ago by her husband Kent J. Koch. Her best pal Julie Crawley, her parents Tony & Bernice, and her in-laws Kenneth & Maria Koch. She leaves behind her brother, lifelong confidant cousin Sonja, many relatives, friends, and teachers to cherish her memory. Edison high class of 56' and with a B.S. from U of MN, Barb spent two decades as an educator in the Mounds View district before two plus decades as a bank analyst. Outside of work Barb enjoyed travel, golf, a spirited bridge game, and swimming. She was a wonderful pianist. Her favorite outing was lunching at seaside with a good book (and a sparkling wine!). She also valued giving back to the community, and any donations or memorials in her honor can be made to homeless shelters or food shelves. Barb will be remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her.

Barbara (Andrews) Koropchak of Edina, Minnesota, passed away April 28, 2024. Throughout her 83 amazing years, she touched many lives as a mother, sister, aunt, social worker and friend. Barb was born on July 16, 1940, in Highland Park, Illinois. She graduated from Highland Park High School and the University of Iowa. She earned a master's degree in Social Work from the University of Minnesota. Her dedication to her career in social services spanned over forty years, primarily with Anoka County Regional Treatment Center. Barb found joy in family and friends, travel, reading both fiction and non-fiction and, emanating from her deeply held beliefs, was committed to advancing social justice and fighting racial and gender inequity and other political causes. Barb is preceded in death by parents, Ed and Elizabeth Andrews, brothers Andy and Bill and sister Mary Reynolds. She is survived by children Matt Koropchak (Mindy) and Jen Ryan, and the grandchildren she adored, Walker Ryan and Anabel Koropchak, and dear friend and sister-in-law, Sue Andrews. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she held dear to her heart. Barb's legacy will be her unwavering love, compassion and unconditional support. Virginia Lee Larson

Larson, Virginia Lee On April 14th, Virginia Lee (Ginny) Larson "slipped the surly bonds of earth to dance the skies on laughter silvered wings" after bravely fighting a rare form of lymphoma. She died peacefully at home with her beloved wife Mary Lou Hoff by her side. Born to Edwina (Hare) and J. Leonard Larson in 1942, Ginny and her brother Jay were raised in a home that celebrated the laughter, music and Swedish heritage that would shape Ginny's life. After graduating from St. Louis Park High in 1959, Ginny would attend Gustavus Adolphus College where she would study Education and prepare for a lifetime of teaching. Ginny's Gustie roots ran deep, and she developed many lifelong friendships during her time there. An active member of the alumni association, she helped organize memorable reunions. A highlight of her college years was being chosen by her peers to serve as the Lucia Queen, honoring the Swedish Christmas tradition where a candle wreathed St. Lucia visits to bring hope and light during the darkest time of the year. And Ginny continued to bring light to the world throughout her lifetime. Ginny's interest in seeing the world developed early. After a year of teaching, she took time off and embarked on a nearly yearlong adventure across the pond. She bought a brand new VW Beetle in Germany, traveling extensively throughout Europe, the Mediterranean and the Middle East. She loved learning from the people and cultures she experienced which in turn gave her a global outlook that would serve her well during the years and adventures to come. Ginny settled in St Louis Park and started a family with her first spouse (David). Their two sons, Steven and Michael, would inherit her sense of humor and her love of music. She raised her boys with kindness and patience (which they certainly tested over the years, sorry mom!). In 1980, the travel bug bit again, and Ginny's family headed to Asia where Ginny helped found a school for 800 K-12 children confined to a Hong Kong transit camp for Vietnamese refugees. This experience had a profound influence on her life, her teaching, and her ability to connect with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Returning to Minnesota after four years abroad, Ginny was hired by Minneapolis Public Schools to teach elementary students at Jefferson and Fulton Schools until her retirement in 2001. During this time, Ginny earned her Masters Degree in psychology from the Adler Institute. An exceptional and beloved teacher, she believed in making learning fun, interesting, and active. Her classroom was a place that valued respect, inclusion, cooperation, caring, and affirmation. Ginny's understanding of how students learn made her an adaptable teacher who could bring out the best in her kids. Many of her students stayed in touch for decades after graduation, writing or visiting to share news of their lives, their careers and their families. While teaching at Fulton Elementary during the 1990s, Ginny met Mary Lou, her soulmate and the love of her life. Bonding quickly and firmly over shared values and interests, their love and devotion was evident to all who knew them. They were finally able to formalize their commitment when gay marriage became legal in 2013. Together, Ginny and Mary Lou shared 27 years of love, joy, laughter, and gratitude. They traveled the world with friends old and new, relaxed at their cabin on Superior's North Shore, raised their cherished Bichons, and spent time with their precious grandchildren. Ginny and Mary Lou were active in their church, forging many important and enduring friendships (Hey "Church Ladies"!) first at St. Paul Reformation Lutheran, then at St Luke Presbyterian in Minnetonka where Ginny sat on committees, sang in the choir and folk group, and was a member of the Befriender Ministry. The importance of music in Ginny's life can't be overstated. With the voice of an angel, her love of music found her singing in choirs, women's groups and folk groups at an early age. She'll always be remembered with her guitar in her hand, leading people in song. Even as she neared the end of her life, she could make her hospice nurses laugh with a perfectly chosen song for any situation. Ginny was a born optimist with a disarming wit, a loyal friend, and a wise counselor. She had an ability to connect with people and a positive attitude that was contagious. Never afraid to speak out against injustice, Ginny was a passionate and unapologetic feminist, women's rights activist and fierce champion of equality and fairness. Ginny's family would like to thank all the medical personnel who helped us over the past year. Allina physicians, nurses, home health care staff and Hospice teams, Abbott NW Hospital, MN Oncology and Mayo Clinic doctors and staff treated Ginny and her family with the utmost respect and compassion. We shall be forever grateful. Ginny was quite simply, unforgettable, living life to the fullest with exuberance and gratitude, and while she will be missed greatly, her spirit will live on in the hearts and lives of those who knew and loved her. Ginny is survived by her beloved wife Mary Lou Hoff, children Michael (Sarah) and Steven (Heather) Jones, her grandchildren Annabelle and Robert Jones, her sister-in-law Renee, niece and nephew Leah and Ben Larson, and so very, very many dear friends and extended family. Sharon J. Lubinski

Lubinski, Sharon J. Age 71, of Minnetonka, passed away April 19, 2024. Preceded in death by parents, brother David and sister-in-law, Joann. Sharon excelled in her career, enjoying 39 years in law enforcement, including detective in the Dane County WI Sheriff's Dept, 23 years in the Minneapolis Police Dept. culminating in her assignment as Assistant Chief, and a service of more than 6 years as the US Marshal. Well-regarded by co-workers and superiors alike, her achievements were many. At MPD she organized fellow officers to identify as gay to their Police Chief. Sharon was Coordinator for the MN HEALS project to reduce Minneapolis homicides. Committed to community policing she worked on issues of community concern with Indigenous, Somali, Hmong and African American communities. Possessed of a commitment to be of service whether on duty or not, Sharon played an important role for MPD during the 35W bridge collapse. As the first female US Marshal to serve the MN District she brought all her considerable law enforcement skills, experience and insight to the job for the good of all. A strong leader and determined person, Sharon brought values of compassion, appreciation, respect, non-judgement, kindness and happiness into all aspects of her life, work and play. She manifested these values while living and speaking with others, even during times of conflict. Sharon retired in 2016 to travel, enjoy family and friends and continue her love of opera, running, astronomy and nature. A romantic, loving spouse and wonderful friend, she was funny, caring and cooperative. Sharon is survived by her spouse of 38 years, Fran; brother Travis and sister Toni; many relatives and friends. Ludgate, James Kenneth "Ken" Age 86 of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully at home April 30, 2024 with his wife by his side. He retired from The Toro Company after more than 20 years. David Lee Meissner

David attended Rush City High School, active in music, sports, and student government "Go Tigers" and attended Rush City Baptist Church. He played the piano and sang with his brothers. He earned degrees from UofM: BMs in Vocal Performance and Theory & Composition, MA in Theory & Composition, and completed course work for a DMA in Vocal Performance. A vast musical career: choral conductor/music director (e.g. UofM and Wesley United Methodist); Opera/Musical Performer (Postcard From Morocco, Amahl & the Night Visitors, Fiddler on the Roof); tenor soloist (e.g. Masterworks Chorale, Hennepin United Methodist, Montana Chorale); choral artist (e.g. Dale Warland Singers, SF Opera project w/Bobby McFerrin, SF Symphony Chorus); and Leader/Member, cover bands. Certified piano technician, tuning for Prince. Avid volunteer: AIDS ministries, Reconciling Ministries, and AIDS rides. While working his "day-job" at the UofM he met the love of his life, Gene Chelberg. In 2002, moved to SF, and created a wonderful community of friends. Married in 2008, renewed vows in 2020, and shared many great adventures. Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2014, complicated by dementia in 2021, David enrolled in home hospice on 4/5 and passed peacefully 4/21 surrounded by "Team David." Preceded in death by: parents Walter & Alice, sister Janet, brother Roger, brother Edward "Willy" (Linda), brother Wally (Lois), and father-in-law & step-mother-in-law Ray & Jan. John Meslow

John Andrew Meslow was born December 18, 1938, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. He passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024, in St. Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1956, before moving across the river to attend St. Olaf College. After meeting on a blind date, John married Karen (Bangsund) and spent 58 years together building a loving and connected community of family and friends. Their children Julie (Jeff) Michael, and Sara (Paul Vahle) Meslow, and grandchildren Sam, Charlie, Henry, Paige, and Sadie (Casey) were the pride of his life and are now the carriers and beneficiaries of his legacy to live a good and meaningful life. After serving briefly in the Air Force, John began his career at International Multifoods and 3M, before being recruited in 1968 to become the employment manager at Medtronic. He was fortunate to spend 31 years with the company, hiring many fine employees as the company grew and providing leadership to the Neurological and Spinal Business. It was a fulfilling career devoted to championing life-giving technologies, while building many meaningful relationships, and ultimately friendships. Grounded in his Christian faith, John was a servant leader and member of Augustana Lutheran Church for 58 years. He and Karen also found great joy in supporting numerous social service organizations and providing college scholarships to Minnesota students. John served on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Private College Council, Concordia College, Gillette Hospital, and SurModics. An entrepreneur at heart, John and a friend started Arrowood Girls Basketball Camp in 1978, the first of its kind in Minnesota. In 'retirement' he founded Innovation Scholars in 2006, providing Minnesota private college students with real-life learning opportunities to study medical issues from Mayo Clinic researchers and medical start-up companies. This program brought great satisfaction and mentorship opportunities to John over the past 18 years. Active in sports in his younger years, John became a lifelong sports supporter, watcher, and discusser! Despite being a Wisconsin boy, he became loyal to his Minnesota teams. He looked forward to the annual Ole boys fishing trip and always cherished every minute he could spend at the cabin. John is preceded in death by his parents, Ormond and Eleanor (Jacobson) Meslow. He is survived by his brother Robert (Karen), wife, children, grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, lifelong friends, and colleagues. He was a natural leader, a sought-after friend, and a mentor to many. His gift of storytelling, genuine curiosity about people, and the twinkle in his eye will be greatly missed. Gary D. Olson

Visitation one hour prior to the service. Born in Fosston on July 18, 1949, Gary grew up in Bagley before relocating to Eden Prairie with his family in 1966. A 1967 graduate of Eden Prairie High School, he went on to get his bachelor's degree at Mankato State and advanced degrees in education at St. Cloud State and the University of Minnesota. Gary worked with all ages of kids grades K-12, spending 19 years as a special education teacher in the Anoka-Hennepin school district and 20 years as a principal in Crookston and Roseau before retiring from his 39 year career in education in 2010. Away from work, Gary loved a project and when not at school could usually be found in the yard or the garage. Gary was preceded in death by his father Kelly, mother Marrian, second father Curt, brother Curtis and first wife Pat. Olson, Jo Ann Age 86 of Richfield passed away April 4, 2024. Preceded in death by parents, 2 sisters and her daughter Vicki. Jo was a dedicated mother of 4 children, served 20 years as a dining site manager at the Richfield Community Center, then retired in 1998 to enjoy her grandchildren. Jo accompanied Bob and their friends on many camping trips to the boundary waters and found she loved the fresh air, clean water and wildlife, especially the loons. Ralph Olson

Olson, Ralph 91, of Woodbury, MN, passed away peacefully March 15, 2024, from complica- tions of Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Duluth, MN to Robert and Ella Olson on August 3, 1932. He grew up in Duluth, MN with his two younger brothers Floyd and James. A proud graduate of Denfeld High School, Ralph was asked to contribute by painting a mural in the central hallway while a student. Ralph served in the United States Army as a cartographer, stationed in Germany post WWII. After his time with the armed forces, he attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later was accepted to Pratt Institute School of Architecture in Brooklyn, NY receiving his Master of Arts degree in architecture. Meeting his wife while teaching at the University of Minnesota School of Architecture, he and his wife Joan celebrated over 55 years of marriage. The two would have one child, Matthew, born in Ottawa, Ontario. Ralph's architecture was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. Many of the buildings he designed can be found throughout Minnesota as well as California and Illinois. Ralph had no signature style, instead he preferred to extract a layer of quiet eclecticism, ever alert to the possibilities of site and program. Ralph was a lifelong learner, seeking knowledge in books, periodicals, and correspondence courses. Ralph also had a pervasive sense of humor, citing numerous Dad jokes before that was even given a construct. Ralph is preceded by his parents, Robert and Ella, his wife Joan and brother James. Ozolins, Elita age 94, of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 26, 2024. She was born January 29, 1930 in Latvia. She is survived by her husband, Janis; daughter, Sandra (John) Plifka; grandchildren, Mara (Nick) and Dane (Brielle); and great-grandsons, Brayden and Dawson. Elita will be remembered as very kind and loving by her family and friends, whom she treasured greatly. James L. Pehringer

Dr. James Pehringer Au.D of Chaska Minnesota, born in Milwaukee, WI January 4, 1954, passed away unexpectedly on April 2, 2024, while visiting Gilbert, AZ. Jim began his career as an audiologist, employed by several ENT physicians in the Twin Cities area. Always the entrepreneur, he concurrently started his own company (Pehratek) in 1979, manufacturing and selling VRA products to the audiological industry. In 1996 he opened his own private practice, Hearing Solutions Group, dispensing hearing aids until his retirement in 2023.

Jim is survived by his partner Susie Lysaker, his sons Adam Pehringer and his wife Erin and Jeremy Pehringer. Jim is also survived by his brother Joe and his wife Patty, and predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Violet Pehringer.

Pamela Marie (Ruff) Peirsol

Peirsol, Pamela Marie (Ruff) 79, After a brave & gutsy never ending battle with breast, pancreatic, and finally lung cancer Pam, my true companion and love of my life, died peacefully Sunday morning, March 10th with me, her husband, at her side. She was preceded in her journey by her parents, Rosemary and Orin Ruff. Pam is survived by husband, Jay, children Patricia (Trish) Webster and George (Cubby) Webster and his wife Andrea, sister Patti Thorp, niece Amy McConnel and her children Maryn & Cade, nephew Ryan Carlson and the Gramlich Family, Trisha's second family for over 30 years. She graduated in the Minnetonka High School Class of 62, and graduated in the College of St. Catherine Class of 66 with a Four Year Degree in Nursing. Later in her nursing career she earned her certification in Wound, Ostomy and Countenance Care. She was a caregiver at an early age, helping her father care for her mother and remained a caregiver through her entire life. Pam devoted her life to the caring of others and particularly to the care of her daughter Trish; who was born severely impaired and profoundly handicapped. Water was her Life-Force. During High school she spent her summers working as a local life guard and swimming instructor, during college she was a member of the Synchronized Swimming Team "Dolphins". All through her life she took great pleasure in swimming, sailing, boating and in water aerobics as a member of the "Golden Mermaids". Pam loved our annual winter vacations on the Sea of Cortez in Cabo San Lucas's Medano Beach, and our annual fall vacations on the Pacific Ocean in San Diego's Pacific Beach. Most of all she loved the past forty years living in our home in Tonka Bay, on the shore of Lake Minnetonka; a true "LAKE GIRL". She gave her love to so many and was loved by so many in return. She chose when it was her time to "go". For those of us who loved her she will be forever in our hearts, souls and memories especially when we gaze at Lake Minnetonka. Peterson, Allan E. Age 86 of North Oaks, formerly of St. Paul and Centerville, passed away peacefully at Waverly Gardens on March 21, 2024. Preceded in death by loving wife of 62 years, Lorelei, parents Elmer and Cora, siblings, Charles, Lucille and Elsie. Survived by sons David (Pam) and Rick (Carol), and grandsons Jon and Joe. He loved skiing with his family and friends and was a ski instructor for Ramsey County Parks at Battle Creek. All the kids knew him as "Uncle Al the kiddie's pal". He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and playing guitar. He worked many years as an ironworker and was a proud member of Local 512. He helped build many of the skyscrapers in the Twin Cities. Al truly enjoyed boating on the St. Croix River with his wife and sons. He was a 50-year member of the St. Croix Yacht Club (SCYC) and served as its Commodore in 1989. He had an amazing and adventuresome life, loving wife and family, and many amazing friends. Born January 23, 1935, the first-born daughter of Edmond Hand Norris and Grace Bainbridge Norris, Mary's very first adventure was a horsedrawn sleigh ride through deep snow to get from the family home in Villard, MN, to the hospital in Glenwood in time for her arrival. She grew up in Long Prairie, MN, where she was the homecoming queen at Long Prairie High School in 1951, graduating in 1952. Most importantly, this is where Mary met her true love and life partner, Darrel Dean Rosenow. Darrel and Mary married shortly after high school and together attended University of Minnesota for two years before returning to Long Prairie where Darrel joined the Norris family hatchery business and Mary dedicated herself to raising their growing young family. After brief stints in Brainerd and Gaylord, the family settled in St. Peter, where Mary and Darrel lived for more than 40 years until his death in 2019. Mary focused her energies on raising her family, and over the years also worked as a hospital aide, sold fresh vegetables from her plentiful garden, managed the local fabric store, and served as the receptionist for a local doctor. After retiring in 1991, Mary loved spending time with her children and their spouses as well as her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In her active years, Mary enjoyed gardening, golfing, skiing, painting, projects at the cabin, and swimming in the lake. She and Darrel were square dancers for more than 40 years and members of the St. Peter Promenaders. Even as she aged and lived with Parkinson's disease, Mary continued to knit and quilt and bake with gusto. She did not allow the progressive disease to define her but rather she faced it with courage, dignity, and spunk, up until the very last days of her life. In 2019, Mary relocated to Anoka and then Champlin, MN, to be closer to family. For the last five years of her life, Mary's primary caregiver was her daughter-in-law, Kathy, whom Mary referred to as her "right hand person". The two formed a special bond that was evident to all. Mary is survived by her sons, Darrel Dean, Jr. (Lucy) of Minneapolis and Charles (Kathleen) of Ramsey; son-in-law, Dr. Mark Heggem of Aitkin; grandchildren, Joshua (Shauna) Heggem of Battle Lake, MN, Andrew Heggem of Madison, TN, Nathan (Matt Dittes) Heggem of Brooklyn, NY, Fuhua Ding (John Thode) of Shorewood, MN, and Taylor Rosenow of Coon Rapids, MN; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanie Trigg of Capitola, CA; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Ruppert, Carole Florence (Turcotte) 82, of New Braunfels, TX, headed to her Heavenly home on April 5, 2024. She was born January 19, 1942 in Turtle Lake, WI. Carole graduated from Mounds View HS in 1961. She married Anthony Ruppert in 1969 and they owned A. Ruppert & Son Well Company in Corcoran, MN. Carole was an active volunteer and she loved telling people about all that Jesus had done for her. Ryan, Constance Louise Connie, 92, died peacefully April 25 at Pillars of Prospect Park in Minneapolis. She was born in Minneapolis to Albert and Emma Maiser and grew up in Waconia, Minnesota. She graduated from the University of Minnesota and married James Ryan in 1955. She was predeceased by her husband Jim, her parents and her sisters, Beatrice Seltz, Virginia Kunze, Carol York, and her nephew Steve York. She is survived by nieces Beth Janssen, Barb Mazurek, Susan Schweigert, and Sharon Rivi, and nephews John and David Seltz and Kenneth and Kurt Kunze. Connie and Jim were both elementary school teachers in the Minneapolis school system. They retired early to spend winters out west skiing and to enjoy days together at their remote summer home on an island near Voyageurs Park. Connie was a gracious host and they entertained friends and family at their home and on the island. Edwin "Ed" is remembered for his genuine kindness and deep love for God and others. Ed was born on June 23, 1936 in Fergus Falls, MN. In his early years, he lived East of Bemidji, Minnesota. He graduated from Bemidji High School where he played football and enjoyed his classes (especially Math & Science). He attended Bemidji State University for 2 years and transferred to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities for 3 years. He was the first member of his family to attend college. He graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. It was at the University of Minnesota where he met his wife Shirley at a campus church. In November 1959, Ed married Shirley and settled in Minnetonka where they raised 3 children. They lived in the same home for 58 years. Ed and Shirley moved to Amira Choice Minnetonka in August 2018 where they enjoyed the final years of their lives. Ed worked for Honeywell beginning in 1959 where he was an Electrical Engineer in the Defense Division. While working full time, he earned his Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. Honeywell eventually spun off their Defense Division which then became Alliant Techsystems. During his career, he worked hard and received many patents and advanced in management positions up to the level of Defense Group Vice President. He retired in 1995 at the age of 59. Ed enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, golfing, watching sports and attending worship concerts. He had a deep love for God and His Word throughout his life. He frequently engaged in Bible studies and anchored his eternal hope and salvation on God's promises throughout Scripture. A celebration of life service will be held at Cross View Lutheran Church, 6645 McCauley Trail W., Edina on Wednesday, May 22 at 11:00am with a luncheon to follow. Reginald Dean Schroeder

Schroeder, Reginald Dean age 88, of Bloomington, MN died April 22, 2024 of heart failure. Reg organized and was President of the R.D. Schroeder Company, an executive search firm which he ran for 31 years. Previously, he had a 30-year career in sales and management in the animal nutrition industry working for Vita Plus, International Multifoods, Michigan Farm Bureau, Quali-Tech, Cenex, and Cargill. He was a past board member of Michigan Grain and Agri Dealers Association and Cooperative Research Farms. He was a partner with son Ryan, of Schroeder Properties, LLC, a rental real estate business for 32 years. Reg was born May 29, 1935 in the Township of Woodland, Sauk County, Wisconsin. His parents, Paul and Leona (Schmidt) Schroeder and brother, Sidney, preceded him in death. Reg graduated from Wonewoc High School. Reg and Joan (Joann) met in 6th grade at St. Paul's Lutheran school and were married on October 23, 1954, 69 years ago, in that same church. His lifelong career in the agriculture industry required the family to live in many locations, including: Madison, WI; Rochester, MN; Hoopeston, IL; Nappanee, IN; New Hampton, IA; Okemos, MI; and Edina, MN. Reg is remembered for his high level of energy, optimism, honesty, and exceptional memory of people he interacted with in the Ag industry. He and Joan traveled to most of the U.S. states, the provinces of Canada and Mexico many times. International travel took them to 24 countries. They were continually remodeling and redecorating the houses they lived in along with all the work of owning rental property. Survivors include wife Joan; their four sons: Steven of Cedar Rapids, IA.; Ryan (Patricia Wilder) of St. Paul, MN; Wayne (Carla) of Colleyville, TX; and Mark (Linda) of Hong Kong, China. Clara Louise (Anderson) Shattuck

Shattuck, Clara Louise (Anderson) 92-1/2, of Mounds View, formerly of Columbia Heights, died Thursday, May 2, 2024, at home. Born August 21, 1931, on a small farm near Vining, the second child of Alf and Celia Anderson, she attended Vining Elementary School and graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1949. She then came to Minneapolis, where she worked as a nanny for a year and liked the Cities well enough to stay. She worked in a bakery and had several clerical jobs before she met her husband Chester at the Pastime Roller Rink in St. Louis Park. They were married August 28, 1954, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They raised four children - Dawn, Dori, Daniel, and David. In addition, they were foster parents for over 42 years for Anoka County. In that time, they welcomed over 600 foster children, mostly teenagers, into their home. For over 30 years, bowling at Mady's Lanes was a passion. Clara also enjoyed knitting, embroidery, sewing and tying quilts, and reading, especially historical fiction. She served in a number of leadership roles - with Anoka County Foster Parents and Minnesota Foster Care Association, as an active member of First Lutheran Church of Columbia Heights, and most recently at Realife Cooperative in Mounds View. She and Chester loved their travels, especially in their motor home. They traveled to all 50 states. In a final act of service, Clara donated her body to the U of M Anatomy Bequest Program. Preceded in death by husband; daughter Dori Henderson; grandson Joshua Shattuck; parents; siblings Vergil, Delores, Alvina, and Eddie. She graduated from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls and received an Elementary Education degree from the University of Minnesota. She had a wonderful career in early childhood education. She also loved to spend time with her family and plan amazing vacations and events. Ruth was a lifelong learner and committed volunteer, often taking leadership roles in her church. David J. Wendt

Wendt, David J. Wendt, David J., age 53, of Framingham, MA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 22, 2024, after his battle with cancer. David graduated from Edina High School in 1988. He graduated from St. Olaf College in 1992 with a degree in Math and Chemistry, and then obtained a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 2001 at Iowa State University. While in graduate school, he met his future wife, Maria, and after finishing their graduate studies, they embarked on a grand adventure in Europe, living in Switzerland for the next 18 years. David joined the Tissue Engineering Lab at the Dept of Biomedicine of the University Hospital of Basel in 2001. He pioneered innovative tools for 3D cell and tissue culture. His groundbreaking work secured highly competitive Swiss National Science Foundation grants among others. His advanced bioreactor system led to the founding of a start-up, Cellec Biotek AG. David mentored countless students, sharing his knowledge while helping to develop autonomy and critical thinking. David was energized by his passion for history, quality, and beauty in life be they nature, art, music, architecture, antiques, good food, but most of all great wine. Nothing made him happier than making friends with vintners in Burgundy, the Rhône, and Piemonte; sharing great wine with friends and family; and sharing his wine knowledge with his nephew and nieces. David is survived by his wife of 23 years, Maria Victoria (Bascunana) Wendt; mother Marlene (Johnson) Wendt of Edina, MN; brother Allan (Jessie) Wendt of South Orange, NJ; sister Jennifer (Jim) Rogers of Eden Prairie, MN; nieces Carly, Sophie, and Lucy Rogers, Isabelle and Eloise Wendt; nephew Jake Rogers; and best friend Tim Rajtora (Jonathan Bates) of Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Wendt. A private family service was held for David in Massachusetts. He will be laid to rest among the vineyards in Alsace, France. Gloria was known for being a Leap Year baby, her patience /stubbornness, daily making her bed, sweetness, kindness, contagious giggle, graceful - sincere prayer. She was dedicated to church life and her Grace Circle, relatives and friends. She was passionate about gardening, antique restoration, hardware store sales, Christmas village and her appetite for pies, desserts of any kind. Family and friends were of the utmost importance to her. Wayne G. Witte

Witte, Wayne G. age 88. Passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024, surrounded by family and loved ones. Preceded in death by wife Gail of 57 years, and grandson Nicholas Witte. Survived by children Michael (Tracy), Linda (Craig) Bartlett, James (Mary), and William, as well as 8 Grandchildren, 16 great-grand children and 1 great-great grandchild. He served in the US Navy on the USS Boxer during the Korean war. He loved the Lord and was a big MN Gopher fan, and had a lifelong passion for hunting, fishing and his black labs. Gerald Arthur Young

Young, Gerald Arthur Jerry, age 85, loving husband and father of 5, died of natural causes at his home in Golden Valley, MN, on the morning of April 29, 2024, accompanied by his devoted wife Jackie, daughters, and hospice nurses. Preceded by parents Arthur Alvin and Mary Ellen Young, of Faribault, MN, and brother Daniel Joseph Young, of Minneapolis, MN. Jerry was born on June 19, 1938, in Faribault, MN, and grew up in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from DeLaSalle High School and the University of St. Thomas. He spent years as a CPA at Ernst & Ernst and later loved running his own real estate development company, 514, Inc., in the 514 Building in the North Loop of Minneapolis. Jerry is known for his quick belly laughter, a beaming smile that lights up his eyes, a contagious charm, a generous and forgiving nature, a commitment to his church, and devotion and unconditional love of his family. Jerry loved listening to John Denver, which always played on the 8-track car player during the family road trips to the mountains. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 63 years, Jaqueline M. Young, and daughter Jennifer J. Young (John Kremer) of Minneapolis; son Patrick G. Young (Dawn) of Ramsey; daughter Andrea M. Herzog (Paul) of Brooklyn Park; son Daniel J. Young (Michelle) of Brooklyn Park; daughter Katherine M. M. Zweber, Vincent Paul age 79, of West St. Paul (formerly Inver Grove Heights), passed peacefully on April 25, 2024. Vince graduated from Henry Sibley High School and worked for more than 40 years in the flour milling industry. Survived by wife of 56 years, Edrie; sons Jeff (Debra), Eric (Maureen) and Peter (Adie); grandchildren Kaeli, Zoran and Honora; and siblings Dick (Mary), Bob (Sharon), Wayne (Terry), Tom (Kathy), Greg (Sue), Connie Knowles, and Kevin (Kim). Preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Helen; brother and sister-in-law Jake (Kathleen); sister and brother-in-law Mary (Ed) Lemieux. His family would like to thank the staff at Walker Methodist Westwood Ridge for their loving care of Vince.
