Icy Nuisance Snowfall Today - Plowable Snow Potential by Late Week

Icy Nuisance Snowfall Today - Plowable Snow Potential by Late Week

Monday's spasm of arctic air is fading a bit and a weak clipper-like system will squeeze out a coating of fluff today, just enough to ice up roads with temperatures creeping above 20F by afternoon. Quiet weather returns Wednesday and Thursday before a storm approaching from Denver pushes more snow into southern Minnesota (and possibly the metro area) Friday into Saturday morning. Whatever falls will probably melt next week as Pacific air guides the mercury close to 40F a few days next week.

Snowy Sunday in Two Harbors

Today: A Windblown Preview of January

The sun will be out today, but it won't help much: wind chills may dip to -10F early this morning with afternoon "highs" in the low teens. Invigorating. A coating of flurries may brush southern counties Tuesday. A mild blip Thursday gives way to snowy possibilities Saturday PM into Sunday, as a storm approaches from Colorado. Confidence levels are low this far out but ECMWF predicts plowable snow early next weekend.

Mainly Quiet Saturday - Winter Storm Watch In Northern Minnesota

While Saturday should be quiet in the Twin Cities, we are watching a storm system for the second half of the weekend that will bring heavy snow to northern portions of the state. Click for details. - D.J. Kayser

So long daylight...

Winter is Delayed But Not Canceled: Chilly Slap Next Week With Some Snow

Our autumnal weather honeymoon has been quite remarkable (tie for 4th warmest September - November period on record in the Twin Cities) with an unusual number of sunny days. Alas, things are about to change. Next week will be cold enough for snow, and it appears frozen water is on the way, coming in a few waves of low pressure next week. Enjoy your green lawn, odds are you won't be able to see it next week.

4th Warmest Meteorological Fall on Record at MSP

the weather outlook into the weekend looks cooler and a little more unsettled. A fairly decent storm system blows into town with wind-whipped flakes expected on Sunday. Plowable snow will stay across the far northern part of the state once again. Check the blog for more details. -Todd Nelson

Fall Snow

What December? Slushy Possibilities by Sunday

A rain shower early today gives way to 50 degrees, but clippers dropping slushy coatings on northern Minnesota will drag increasingly cold air south. Models hint at a few inches Saturday night into Sunday; maybe plowable north of MSP? Yes, it's about time. Check the blog for more details. -Todd Nelson

Mild Bias Continues Next 10 Days - Some Snow Up North Next Week

Mild Bias Continues Next 10 Days - Some Snow Up North Next Week

Stop me if you've heard this before: temperatures trend milder than average this week with low 50s on the 1st day of December (and a few rain showers). Adding insult to injury for winter weather (snow) lovers. We do cool off next week, but conditions are poor to marginal for accumulating snow for roughly the southern half of Minnesota into much of next week. Winter Lite limps on...

6th Warmest Meteorological Fall On Record Continues

Outlook: Fickle Winters In A Warming World

winter is getting off to a late start. A potential weekend snow event has evaporated, but colder air arrives next week, and a few inches of snow may fall north of MSP Tuesday, with coat-worthy weather most of next week. It'll be chilly, but not polar. Meanwhile expect 4 days 40s this week; a clipper sparks few RAIN showers on Wednesday, December 1. Huh? Where am I living again?? Sunny And Near Average Sunday - Above Average Highs Return To End November

No weather concerns across the state if you're heading back home during daylight hours on Sunday, though a few rain or snow showers will start to work into western Minnesota during the evening. Highs will be in the 30s Sunday but return to the 40s for much of the work week. Click for more - D.J. Kayser

Saturday Clipper - More 40s Next Week

A Saturday clipper drops a couple inches of snow on Duluth, but I don't see any big storm potential until (possibly) the second week of December. Weekend highs top freezing, with 4 days in the 40s next week as a Pacific breeze wafts moderate air well inland. Check the blog for more details. -Todd Nelson

Cold, Sunny Thanksgiving - Wintry Mix Saturday

Cold, Sunny Thanksgiving - Wintry Mix Saturday

One thing I'm thankful for this Thanksgiving is a quiet holiday weatherwise. Thursday will be the coldest so far this season with highs stuck in the 20s, feeling like the teens with a stiff northwest breeze - a good day to stay inside and eat some turkey and mashed potatoes. Conditions remain fairly quiet through the holiday weekend with a light mix possible Saturday. - D.J. Kayser

Winds Next 2 Weeks: More Pacific Than Arctic

Storms will be in short supply until further notice, but a weak clipper may slush up a few lawns late Saturday. Sunday should be the better travel day. Winters are trending shorter, but I'm holding out hope for a white Christmas this year. Check the blog for more details. -Todd Nelson

Snow Mainly Across Northern Minnesota Early Sunday - Rollercoaster Temperatures Continue

As a cold front moves through, we'll watch the chance of snow showers Saturday night into Sunday mainly across northern Minnesota. However, flurries will be possible across southern Minnesota during the morning as well. Temperatures continue to have an adventure - 30s through Monday, then 40s Tuesday and Wednesday. - D.J. Kayser

40s, Cloudy, But Less Breezy Saturday - A Few Snow Showers Possible Sunday With Cooler Highs

Cloudy skies remain around as we head into the weekend, but the breezy weather will die down for a day Saturday with highs climbing into the 40s. We're on a bit of a rollercoaster with temperatures dipping back into the 30s Sunday and maybe not making it out of the 20s Monday. Click for more details. - D.J. Kayser

Snow Drought Hangs On - Green Thanksgiving Expected This Year

Snow Drought Hangs On - Green Thanksgiving Expected This Year

Good news for travelers looking out into the Thanksgiving weekend; bad news for people who love to romp in the snow. The pattern won't favor piles of frozen water anytime soon. Gusty winds? Absolutely. A temperature roller coaster? Yep. But Old Man Winter should continue to pull his punch into late November, based on everything I'm seeing.

Wind Gusts AM Wednesday to AM Thursday

Strong Winds Continue Today. Light Snow By Sunday?

Strong winds will impact much of the state today with frequent gusts up to 30 to 40mph. It'll still be breezy on Thursday, but will be lighter by Friday. I don't see any rain or snow chances until possibly late weekend as another storm system passes along the International Border. Check the blog for more details. -Todd Nelson
