The NFL penalized the New Orleans Saints for their "bounty program" of the past three seasons by:

• Suspending coach Sean Payton, right, without pay for the 2012 season, effective April 1.

• Fining them $500,000 and having them forfeit their second-round picks in the 2012 and 2013 drafts.

• Suspending General Manager Mickey Loomis without pay for the first eight games of the 2012 season.

• Suspending assistant coach Joe Vitt for the first six games of the 2012 season.

• Issuing an indefinite suspension of former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who is now with the Rams.
