A St. Paul police officer shot and killed a bear about 8 p.m. Saturday in the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood east of downtown.
Police spokesman Howie Padilla said police received a call about the bear about 7:30 p.m. from a resident in the 100 block of Maria Avenue.
Animal control officers took the bear's body away, Padilla said.
Police had not received other reports of bears being sighted in the city, and officers did not know how the bear came to be in the neighborhood, Padilla said.
No one was hurt.
