Historical quilts and new creations will be on display during the Dakota County Star Quilters' annual quilt show, which opens Wednesday in South St. Paul.
The show, "Old Patterns, New Ideas," also will include a quilt auction, quilting items for sale and talks by quilting author Maxine Rosenthal. It runs through March 1; hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The show is at the Dakota County Historical Society's Lawshe Memorial Museum, 130 3rd Av. N., South St. Paul.
Admission is a suggested donation of $3. The lectures by Rosenthal are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 12; tickets are required and cost $6. Call Mary at 952-888-0421 to buy tickets.

This February, the Imax theater at the Minnesota Zoo is designating a handful of days as "language days" and screening films in French, German and Spanish.
French Day, on Tuesday, will include "Ultimate Wave Tahiti 3D" and "Deep Sea" shown in French. German Day, on Wednesday, features two showings of "Deep Sea." A pair of Spanish days, Feb. 12-13, include "Galapagos 3D," "Born to be Wild 3D" and "Deep Sea." And Chinese Day is Feb. 20, with "China: The Panda Adventure," which will be shown in English.
Tickets are $9.75 for adults and $7.50 for children and seniors.
The zoo also will present select indoor exhibits in the featured language of the day. Upper-level language students use music, costumes and props to interpret more than 40 animal exhibits.
