September 5, 2016 at 12:42PM

Two teenagers who died in a car crash Saturday on a service road at the Renaissance Festival in Shakopee were identified Sunday as Cheyenne Rose Smith, 17, of Prior Lake, and Taylor Ann Wieland, 17, of Le Center, Minn.

Smith was the driver, Wieland the passenger. They were driving on the gravel service road, which is west of Hwy. 41 in Jackson Township, about 7 a.m. Saturday, according to the Scott County Sheriff's Office. The car left the road and hit trees between the road and some railroad tracks.

Wieland died at the scene; Smith was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, where she died about 90 minutes later.

The Sheriff's Office said the girls were both students in the New Prague school district. Drugs and alcohol weren't factors in their deaths. Neither girl was wearing a seat belt.

The incident is under investigation.
