Scott Schiller's upset victory at 197 pounds gave the Gophers the lead for good, and Tony Nelson secured the team victory with a decision at heavyweight as No. 3 Minnesota rallied to defeat No. 5 Illinois 18-14 in a Big Ten wrestling dual on Monday night at the Sports Pavilion.

The Gophers (11-1, 5-0 Big Ten) trailed 11-3 and 14-6 before closing the match with victories by Logan Storley at 174, Kevin Steinhaus at 184, Schiller and Nelson.

Schiller, a sophomore ranked No. 12 at 197, edged No. 6 Mario Gonzalez, the defending Big Ten champ, 4-2 on the strength of a first-period takedown and two escapes.

Illinois (5-2, 1-2) used upset victories by Daryl Thomas over No. 5 Chris Dardanes at 133 and Caleb Ervin over No. 7 Dylan Ness to take the early lead.

U hockey teams remain No. 1

The Gophers men's and women's hockey teams retained their No. 1 rankings in the U.S. College Hockey Online polls. In the men's poll, the Gophers (17-3-4) received 48 of 50 first-place votes. In the women's poll, the Gophers (24-0) received all 15 first-place votes.
