If the words “character” and “charm” describe your favorite spaces, make yourself at home with classes just for you. The Preservation Alliance of Minnesota, a St. Paul nonprofit, is offering training sessions designed for those who live in, work with or just want to know more about old buildings. “Homeowner Series: How to Find Old-Home Contractors, Parts and Furnishings”: July 15, 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Historic Fort Snelling. This class is designed for anyone who lives in an old home. Get the inside scoop on where to find original, reproduction and salvage pieces, and where area home-rehabbers shop to outfit their own projects. Space is limited; online registration only. Summer florals

Colorful flowers can make summer gatherings more festive and photo-worthy. Learn how to make your own eye-catching arrangements, using a mix of citrus-colored flowers and tropical foliage, in a hands-on workshop led by Bachman’s floral designer Diane Enge. You’ll head home with a bouquet for your table.

The cost is $50, which includes all materials used in your floral creation. The workshop will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. July 17 and 2 to 4 p.m. July 19 at Bachman’s, 6010 Lyndale Av. S., Minneapolis. Register at
