Marsh fire controlled in Fond du Lac County

BRANDON, Wis. — Crews have controlled a large wildfire that grew to several hundred acres in Fond du Lac County.

Brandon Fire Capt. Adam Brown says the fire was brought under control around 4 p.m. Friday. A crew is putting out hot spots.

Brown says the fire burned up to 300 acres of marsh land near Brandon. But no buildings were burned and no one was hurt.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Mark Strand tells WTMJ-TV ( ) the fire started Friday morning by someone burning brush that quickly spread out of control.

Eight fire departments and 70 firefighters were called out to control the fire.

A grass fire in Waukesha County was threatening homes in the Town of Merton, but is now out. A cause has not been determined.
