A 32-year-old Missouri man died earlier this week after being involved in an early-morning altercation with another man outside of a Perkins restaurant last week in Hastings, police said.

Officers responding to a report of a fight on May 9 outside the family restaurant at 1206 Vermillion St. found Bradley Sanders, 32, of Bakersfield, Mo., unresponsive on the ground, Hastings police chief Bryan Schafer said Friday in a news release.

Paramedics tried to revive Sanders at the scene, before taking him to United Hospital in St. Paul. He was pronounced dead sometime Monday, Schafer said. A cause of death was not immediately known.

Police are investigating what precipitated the incident between Sanders and 27-year-old James Phenix, of West Plains, Mo., in the restaurant's parking lot. Autopsy results will determine whether or not charges will be filed against Phenix, who was arrested after the incident, then released, Schafer said.

He said police waited until Friday to release information about Sanders' death because of his status as an organ donor.
