Investigators are trying to determine an identity of the badly decomposed body.

A body believed to be that of a man was pulled from the St. Croix River Tuesday morning, and investigators are trying to determine an identity.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 11:38 a.m. that the body had washed ashore near the 900 block of Quentin Avenue in Lakeland, said Dan Starry, chief deputy. The man’s identity is unknown, and was sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office to see if that can be determined.

The body appeared to have been in the water for a long period of time and was in a significant state of decomposition.

Meanwhile, investigators are checking other law enforcement agencies for missing persons.
