ROCHESTER, Minn. - Authorities have removed a 3-foot-long pipe bomb from a vehicle on the Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester.

Traffic near the clinic was diverted Thursday as authorities removed the pipe bomb from the trunk of a vehicle inside the Generose Building parking ramp on the Saint Marys Hospital campus.

The pipe weighed 50 to 60 pounds and had caps on each end and a wick. Crews pried open the trunk and took the bomb to a safe location to detonate it.

Mayo officials said there was no stated threat to the facility and no patients or staff were at risk.

KSTP-TV ( http://bit.ly/SKBf6d) reports authorities cleared the scene by early evening. They are continuing to investigate how the pipe bomb got into the parking ramp.
