A baby born to a woman who was injured in a deadly crash amid a high-speed chase in St. Cloud died Monday, adding to the chain of sorrow triggered by Friday's chase.

Also Monday, a 22-year-old man was charged with trying to elude police in the chase, which killed another driver and seriously injured his pregnant passenger.

Timothy R. Gilles of Waite Park, Minn., is charged with fleeing police in a motor vehicle, resulting in death. Bail was set at $750,000, with conditions.

Timothy Casanova, 30, of Starbuck, Minn., died in the crash. Megan I. Thomsen, of Glenwood, Minn., who was eight months pregnant, gave birth by Caesarean section at St. Cloud Hospital, said Stearns County Attorney Janelle Kendall.

The baby, who had been named Timothy James Thomsen, died Monday, St. Cloud police said.

Kendall said "there will be more charges" against Gilles.

According to the criminal complaint:

Officers from Waite Park, Stearns County and the Central Minnesota Drug Task Force attempted to stop Gilles in a sport-utility vehicle about 5 p.m. Friday at Hwy. 15 and 2nd Street S. Gilles was wanted for a felony warrant out of Wright County on drug and assault charges and fleeing police.

Once two marked squad cars pulled up behind Gilles, he made an evasive turn around a vehicle, drove over a median and sped away.

At Waite Avenue and 2nd Street S., Gilles raced through a red light and struck the minivan, killing Casanova and seriously injuring Thomsen.

Police said that Gilles jumped out of his vehicle and ran. An officer caught up with him and brought him down with a Taser.

Gilles was treated for minor injuries and taken to the Stearns County jail.
