Updated New England Rain Map

Heavy rain has been pouring down across New England since late Thursday, andwill continue to do so today. Providence, R.I., received 1.48 inches of rainThursday afternoon and evening. More rain fell this morning, causing this monthto become the wettest July on record. The total for this month stood at 8.75inches as of midnight EDT. That is well above the 3.17 inches of rain thattypically falls each July.Drier weather will return to Providence and all of southern New Englandtoday as the rain pours down to the north. The heaviest rain is falling to thewest of the storm's center. That puts far eastern New Hampshire and coastalMaine in line to receive 2 to 3 inches of rain. Up to 2 inches will wetsurrounding places.

Most of the rain will fall in drenching downpours. The intensity and amountof the rain could lead to flash flooding. The threat will be greatest inlow-lying and poor drainage areas, as well as along small streams. The wetweather could also cause delays for travelers.
