Return engagement

So is Alec Baldwin now wedded to "Saturday Night Live" for the next four years? The actor didn't appear as Donald Trump last week, but that's bound to change this weekend, especially with the presence of host Kristen Wiig, one of the top five MVPs in the show's history. It's only her second time as host, which is a bit of a surprise considering she left the cast in 2012.

Blood work

Mel Gibson's well-reviewed "Hacksaw Ridge" isn't the first time the director has insisted there will be blood. "Braveheart," the 1995 Oscar-winning epic, was an early indication that gore and violence would be a trademark when he's behind the camera. It's worth noting that "Braveheart" screenwriter Randall Wallace did a rewrite on "Hacksaw" and was originally slated to direct the 2016 film.

Love on the rocks

With the launch of Season 3, "The Affair" has now gone on longer than many marriages. The ever-deepening love triangle features great performances from Maura Tierney and Dominic West. While the show attracts a sizable audience, it has never gotten the critical raves bestowed upon other pay-cable dramas. Perhaps a grinning Jeffrey Dean Morgan should stop by, wielding a baseball bat.
