The highlight of the Dragon Festival at Phalen Park in St. Paul is the boat races, in which 20-member teams propel ornately decorated dragon boats along a 200-meter course.
With most races lasting less than 90 seconds, the rowers, led by a drummer, must paddle with precision as well as power to win.
The annual kid- and pet-friendly festival offers other activities, including martial arts and cultural performances, and aims to bring together the Twin Cities community “in celebration of the diverse Asian Pacific cultures.”
