A man was killed and a woman injured in a shooting Saturday night on Lake Street in south Minneapolis, police said.

Officers found the man severely wounded after they were called to the 2200 block of E. Lake Street about 7:40 p.m., according to a police statement.. He later died.

A 29-year-old woman also was wounded, police said, and taken to HCMC. Minneapolis City Council Member Jason Chavez said in a social media post that the woman was pregnant.

Police said gunfire also struck a nearby apartment building.

An investigation was underway and no arrests were made, police said. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office had yet to release the identifies of the man and woman.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, the Minnesota State Patrol and Metro Transit police also responded to the shooting. The response included a State Patrol helicopter.

In his post, Chavez lamented two "devastating days of violence on Lake Street," where three people were injured and one killed on the same block in two incidents.

"My heart breaks for these reckless acts of violence. My thoughts are with the victims and their families," he wrote.
