Man found fatally shot in tent in Minneapolis homeless encampment

Police said they have made no arrests. "Individuals in the area reported hearing the shots but did not see who was shooting," police said.

A man was found fatally wounded Tuesday in a tent north of Lake Street in a Minneapolis homeless encampment, police said Wednesday.

The man, who was believed to be in his 40s, was unresponsive when police arrived at the encampment near W. 29th Street and Nicollet Avenue after a shooting was reported just before 10: 30 p.m.

The man was taken to HCMC, where he died. His identity has not yet been released.

No arrests have been made. Police said people in the area reported hearing gunfire but did not see who was doing the shooting.

Officer Garrett Parten said the man's tent was among others at an encampment.

There have been 56 homicides this year in Minneapolis, according to a Star Tribune database, matching the number in the city at this time last year.
