Chart: Wild turkey facts

1. Wild turkeys are like white-tailed deer. They can live in our back yards seemingly as tame a songbirds, or they can be extremely wary and difficult photo subjects.

2. A shutter speed of 1/640 of a second was needed to capture a clear image of this turkey in flight.

3. Whenever I see a wild turkey fly, I feel like I'm watching an oversized ruffed grouse, which, of course, can fly through heavy cover with ease.

4. Wild turkeys often "putt" just before flying. Photographers can use this as an audio warning to get ready.
