Best place to ditch the mosquitoes - Whitewater State Park - 2015 Best of MN

Ditch the mosquitoes at Whitewater State Park. (Paul Duncan/The Minnesota Star Tribune)

If you can't stand dousing with bug spray, try this park tucked into southeastern Minnesota bluff country. Spring-fed Whitewater River and Trout Run Creek stay too cold and move too fast for big mosquito hatches. That's great for trout fishing and cooling off in the river's oxbow. 19041 Hwy. 74, Altura; 1-507-932-3007; dnr.state.mn.us
