When Helen Porter, age 97, contacted us last year to let us know she had 40 years of Taste in her closet, we were stunned. But perhaps not as surprised as when the many, many issues landed on our loading dock. Wow! That's a lot of newspapers! Helen died in March and her son Fritz offered the newspapers to Taste. The stacks of newspapers arrived recently.
When we interviewed her in September 2009, we asked why she saved all those newspaper sections.
"I'm not interested in another way to make macaroni and cheese. I'm looking for something different, some variety."
Which is what she found on the pages of Taste. That and the ads, of course, that told her where the bargains were.
