When the Vikings play a team such as Carolina, you kinda get an understanding as to why Brad Childress moved heaven and Favre to find a quarterback during the offseason.

The Panthers have one of the worst QB situations in the NFL. Established No. 1 QB Jake Delhomme has a broken finger on his passing hand and probably won't play on Sunday when the Vikings visit. But the funny thing is, the Vikings would be better off facing him than his backup, Matt Moore.

Moore, a former undrafted free agent with five career starts, isn't that good, but Delhomme was awful even back when he had 10 unbroken fingers.

We'll be talking to Moore a little after noon today. Until then, we ask you two questions: Who is the worst QB in the NFL? And Who has the worst QB situations in the NFL. The latter takes into account backups, age, potential, etc.

Here's my top -- er, bottom -- three for worst QB:

1, JaMarcus Russell.

A former No. 1 overall pick who should have developed at least a little by now, even in Oakland. He has the worst passer rating among (47.7) QBs who are averaging at least 14 passes a game. He's been benched. His replacement is hurt, yet the team isn't crazy about going back to Russell. With two TDs, 11 INTs and a 48.0 completion percentage, you can see why.

2, Jake Delhomme.

Sorry, Jake. You're a nice guy, but you lost something in that NFC title game last year. And you haven't found it. It could be gone forever. Delhomme has the third-worst rating in the league (59.4).

3, Josh Freeman.

Yeah, this one is a little unfair considering the young Buccaneer is a rookie who didn't become a starter until midway through the season. It's too early to write him off.

As for the worst QB situations ...

1, Oakland

Bruce Gradkowski had shown promise, but tore ligaments in both knees in last week's loss to the Redskins. With him out, the Raiders are considering starting third-stringer Charlie Frye (he's still in the league?) ahead of Russell. The team also went out and grabbed J.P. Losman off the QB scrap heap, according to this report. Considering the massive investment gone to waste on Russell, the Raiders win this going away.

2, St. Louis

Marc Bulger was bad and got hurt. Kyle Boller is bad and still playing for a team that's won one game.

3, Carolina

There are a lot of candidates for this spot. The Browns with Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson. The 49ers with former No. 1 overall pick Alex Smith starting ahead of Shaun Hill, who is the better QB.

But I'll go with the Panthers because Delhomme's career just dropped off the face of the earth at a time when the team still has a lot invested in him. Moore probably will finish out the year as the starter, unless the Panthers want to take a hard look at Delhomme as their QB of the near future. A.J. Feeley is the third-stringer. A good No. 3 guy, but hardly worth getting excited about.

I'd love to read other people's top -- er, bottom -- threes.
