Two people have died and six are injured following a fiery semi-truck crash Monday night on Interstate 94 in western Wisconsin.

The crash resulted in a large, fiery explosion that closed all lanes for hours.

It happened just before 5:45 p.m. on Interstate 94 westbound, just before the bridge for Hwy. 128 south of Wilson, Wis., according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Wisconsin State Patrol.

Highway video cameras show a white semi-truck driving at a high speed toward a group of vehicles moving much more slowly before plowing into the back of a pickup truck and another semi.

A fiery explosion emanates from the front of the semi and pickup, and the blast appears to hit an SUV on the right side. The vehicles roll out of view of the camera, and one of the vehicles leaves a trail of flames in its path. Later the camera turns toward the crash and shows heavy black smoke rising over the highway bridge.

Wisconsin State Patrol, St. Croix County Sheriff's Office Deputies and multiple fire and EMS units responded. The agencies' statement describes it as a seven-vehicle crash.

State officials did not provide additional details Monday night or say what the extent of the non-fatal injuries were. The two killed in the crash have not been identified.

"Due to the complexity of the crash and the ongoing investigation," an update will be provided by 11 a.m. Tuesday, the news release added.
