Vikings coach Brad Childress could receive a contract extension within the next two to three weeks, according to a report by Clark Judge of the CBS Sports website.

Childress is in the fourth year of a five-year contract and it would not be surprising to see him receive an extension with the Vikings off to a 6-0 start. As we wrote Sunday, Childress was the face of the team's offseason pursuit of quarterback Brett Favre and so far it has paid off in a big way.

Judge cites a source as saying that an extension is so close that an announcement could come early next month, but another source said nothing is "imminent" at this point. Judge asked one of his sources if there was an obstacle that could sabotage a deal and was told no.

Part of the reason why talk of a contract extension for Childress has heated up -- in addition to the Vikings' record -- is because his agent, Bob LaMonte, was in attendance at the Vikings' victory over Baltimore on Sunday at the Metrodome. However, LaMonte had planned that trip weeks back and while he certainly spoke to top Vikings officials the trip was not set up as a last-minute negotiating session.

The key thing to keep in mind is that there is really no huge rush like there would be if Childress were a college coach or a coach looking for a job with multiple teams interested. By all accounts, the relationship between Childress and his employer is excellent so if there are things that need to be worked through that isn't going to be a huge deal.

With that said, though, no one should be surprised if Childress ends up with a new contract sooner rather than later. The Vikings have their bye week after their Nov. 1 game at Green Bay and at worst they will be 6-2 at that point.

VIKINGS TAKE A LOOK AT THREE DBs AND A WIDE RECEIVER

Tuesday is usually a day for teams to take a look at "street" free agents and today was no exception for the Vikings. A bit thin at the corner spot with Antoine Winfield suffering a sprained right foot on Sunday, the Vikings brought in cornerbacks Mark Parson (Ohio), Trae Williams (South Florida) and DeAndre Wright (New Mexico).

Wright, a sixth-round pick of the New York Giants in this year's draft, was signed to the team's practice squad before the season. The cornerback was released after Week 1 and then spent time on the Lions practice squad.

Parson wasn't drafted last April and went to training camp with Houston. He was released from the Texans practice squad late last month.

Williams was drafted by Jacksonville in 2008 and ended up spending all of last season on Philadelphia's practice squad. The Eagles waived him in September.

The Vikings also worked out former Gophers wide receiver Logan Payne today.

UPDATE: The Vikings signed Wright to their practice squad this evening.
