Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said Brett Favre has made "some progress" in his rehab from a sprained sternoclavicular joint in his right shoulder.

Bevell said Favre went through the Thursday morning walkthrough and still planned to test his shoulder throwing the ball in practice this afternoon.

"I think he's made some progress," Bevell said during his weekly press conference before practice. "He has a little bit more range of motion. I see him stretching and moving around. I think he's still obviously in some pain particularly sleeping I think is not very comfortable. But I have seen him progress a little bit." Bevell said it was too early to say how much throwing Favre will do in practice the next few days. "I think right now we need to determine what he can do and how much pain he can tolerate, if he can even do it all," he said. Favre said that he hopes to have a pretty good idea by Friday about whether he will play Sunday against the Giants, but Bevell said he believes it will be a game-time decision. "Everybody knows Brett Favre so you expect nothing less than him being out there," he said. "You expect nothing less than him playing at his best particularly in adverse situations. To be able to say is Brett Favre going to be like the 99th percentile and lose strength and not be able to throw ... I think it still remains to be see. We're going to take a good look at it here in the next couple of days. But it really is probably going to go down to a game-time decision." Favre's consecutive games streak also is a consideration. He has started 297 consecutive regular-season games. Bevell acknowledged the importance of that streak but said it shouldn't be the deciding factor in whether Favre plays. "I think [the streak] is one of the numbers that he takes pride in," Bevell said. "He's always said he's not a big stats guy and all that. But this is one that is important to him. But on the flipside of that, it's not one where he wants to go out and put his team in jeopardy just to say, 'Hey, I got another game under my belt.' It doesn't do us any good to go out there for one play and have him off the field. It just puts an immediate stress on every position, puts a stress on special teams when you have those types of situations. I don't think this would be that, where he's just trying to continue his streak. It will be a big decision."
