ELIZABETH, N.J. -- Vikings coach Brad Childress asked Brett Favre on Saturday if he wanted to say anything to his teammates to address the controversy that has surrounded him since allegations emerged that he sent inappropriate messages and photos via cell phone to former Jets sideline reporter Jenn Sterger when he played for the team in 2008.

Favre declined at that time.

On Monday, however, Favre did address his teammates as a group at the team hotel in New Jersey. He apologized for being a distraction but never admitted to any of the allegations. ESPN's Chris Mortensen initially reported the story. Mortensen also reported that Favre said he is prepared to play "lights out" against the Jets on Monday night but it's not clear if that was what he said.

The Deadspin.com story about Favre has taken on a life of its own in recent days and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is looking into the situation. There is a chance Favre could end up being suspended under the NFL's pesonal conduct policy.

Meanwhile, Favre continues to deal with pain in his throwing elbow caused by tendinitis. He has received injections for the pain and inflammation, although it's not known when he received his last one. Favre also recently had an MRI on the elbow and there is a chance he will end up wearing a sleeve on the arm for protection.

Given the amount of blitzes the Jets will send, it's going to be of the utmost importance for the Vikings offensive line and others in pass protection to keep Favre from taking a beating. The Jets' play a 3-4 defense and left tackle Bryant McKinnie said there are times he will have to block two guys at once.
