The intertwined NFL coaching careers of Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick:

Jan. 3, 2000: Three years after replacing Bill Parcells as Patriots coach, Carroll was fired by owner Robert Kraft. Carroll went 27-21, twice making the playoffs.

Jan. 3, 2000: On the same day as Carroll's firing, Parcells resigned from his latest job, as coach of the Jets, and was replaced by Belichick, the Jets' assistant head coach and Parcells' hand-picked successor.

Jan. 4, 2000: Belichick stunned the Jets and the football world and stepped down as Jets coach after one day, saying, "I just don't feel I can lead the Jets in the year 2000."

Jan. 27, 2000: Kraft announced the hiring of Belichick as Patriots coach. Since then, Belichick has amassed a 175-65 record and won three Super Bowls.

Dec. 15, 2000: Carroll was hired as coach at the University of Southern California. It was his first college head coaching job.

Jan. 12, 2010: Carroll left USC and returned to the NFL as coach of the Seahawks. Since then, he has amassed a 50-30 record and won one Super Bowl.

Feb. 1, 2015: Carroll, at age 63, and Belichick, at age 62, will meet in Arizona with Carroll trying to become the first coach to win back-to-back Super Bowls since Belichick in the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
