Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.
The Twins have demoted outfielder Joe Benson from Class AAA Rochester to Class AA New Britain, making room on the Rochester roster for Clete Thomas, who cleared waivers, according to Dustin Morse, the Twins senior manager of baseball communications (via Twitter @Twins_Morsecode).
Benson, who was listed as the Twins' No. 2 prospect coming into the season by Baseball America, batted .179 with a .269 on-base percentage and .316 slugging percentage for Rochester with two home runs and eight RBI in 28 games.
In May 2010, the Twins demoted Benson from New Britain to Class A Fort Myers, and that helped turn around his season. They must be hoping this move has the same effect.
