Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.
ANAHEIM, CALIF. -- Justin Morneau's MRI exam showed fluid and inflammation in his surgically repaired left wrist, but no structural damage. Doctors don't expect him to have to go on the disabled list. He's expected to rejoin the team on Wednesday, though he won't play until Friday at the earliest.
The Twins designated Sean Burroughs for assignment to make room on the roster for Drew Butera. Manager Ron Gardenhire said the team wasn't ready to trim from 13 to 12 pitchers.
Gardenhire moved Alexi Casilla to the No. 2 spot in the batting order, dropping Jamey Carroll to No. 9. Gardenhire said Carroll has done a good job getting on base, but Casilla is hot right now.
Tonight's game
The attention now focuses to Francisco Liriano, who is making his first start since April 22. The Angels counter with Jerome Williams, who will be making his first start against the Twins since he was a 22-year-old rookie for the Giants in 2003. Williams is 1-0 with a 3.29 ERA in his most recent two starts, against the Orioles and Rays.
