YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES

Joe Christensen, the Star Tribune's national baseball reporter, has covered the big leagues since 1998. A Faribault native, he graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1996. Before working for the Star Tribune, he spent three years covering the Orioles for the Baltimore Sun. He also covered the Padres and Dodgers for newspapers in Southern California. He'll share his thoughts here on the Twins and all things baseball.
Tsuyoshi Nishioka has yet to join the Twins, but he sounds ready to help the ballclub any way he can. The Twins have until late December to sign Nishioka after submitting the winning bid, about $5 million, for his negotiating rights.
A friend passes along these quotes from Nishioka's press conference in Tokyo after being awarded his third Gold Glove award (second as a shortstop):
Regarding the Twins:
"Minnesota Twins has been contending to the playoff every year. To play for the good team is one of my my wishes. I am happy that I could advance one step forward."
Playing second base or shortstop?
"I have no preference. My goal is play every day."
Regarding the negotiation with the Twins:
"I have nothing to say now. I leave everything to my agent. I don't think that I will give up the idea of going to majors because of the amount of money. I want to win the championship in U.S., too. "
