Twins outfielder Ben Revere, in recent weeks, has been seen with ice on his left knee after games. When asked about it in early September, he said his knee wasn't giving him much trouble and that he would play through it.

It turned out to be enough of a problem that Revere will have surgery Friday in the Twin Cities. Revere announced the surgery Thursday afternoon through his Twitter account.

"Gonna need knee surgery Tom morning,'' he wrote, "so I'll be in MN for a couple of days more if anyone wants to come take care of me I'll appreciate it.''

Revere received extended playing time this season because of injuries, appearing in 117 games. Only Danny Valencia and Michael Cuddyer appeared in more games. Revere batted .267 with 30 RBI and 34 stolen bases, setting a Twins rookie record for steals.

Despite the sore knee, Revere was a regular in the lineup during the final weeks of the season and made several excellent catches in the outfield. He has put himself in the mix to be part of the Twins 2012 outfield, but the coaching staff wants him to improve his plate discipline and learn how to bunt better.

Twins righthander Nick Blackburn also is having surgery Sunday, to relieve pressure on a nerve in his right forearm muscle. Blackburn said he's prepared for the surgery by watching video of the surgery on YouTube.
