On Tuesday, the Gophers held their fourth preseason practice with coaches at Mariucci Arena.

And, for the first time, players wore different colored jerseys, not just maroon and gold.

The Maroon line, or top line was made up of: Mike Hoeffel at left wing, Nick Bjugstad at center and captain Jay Barriball at right wing. Lot of size there with Hoeffel and Bjugstad, a 6-4 freshman. Barriball is a sniper. Top line has to dominant and make things happen on the power play.

Second line, or Gold line, had Jacob Cepis, Nico Sacchetti and Zach Budish. Cepis and Budish often played on the top line the second half of last season with Jordan Schroeder. Sacchetti needs to have a breakout year. Cepis is the agitator on this line, Budish the power forward.

Third line, Black line, had Jake Hansen, Erik Haula and Patrick White. Haula is the freshman Finn who played at Omaha of the USHL last season.

Fourth line, or Green line, had Nate Condon, Taylor Matson and Nick Larson. Some speed there.

Fifth line, or Orange line, had Max Gardiner, Jared Larson and Joey Miller.

Tom Serratore was not at practice for an unknown reason.

The defensemen wore White jerseys at practice -- like them better in black like last season, more intimidating color. Didn't seem to have pairs set because everybody seemed to be skating with several different partners.

Kevin Wehrs, for instance, was with Nate Schmidt and Jake Parenteau, two freshmen. Seth Helgeson was with Cade Fairchild and Aaron Ness. And so forth. Team has nine defensemen, counting Chris Student, a transfer from Northeastern who is practicing with team. But Student is not eligible until next season.
