Preview: Because of the semester break and a bye week, the No. 9 Gophers (11-5-2, 3-1 Big Ten) have played only two games in the past month. They are on a four-game win streak and have outscored opponents 17-6 in those victories. Michigan (8-9-1, 1-3) is 2-4 in its past six and has given up an average of 4.2 goals per game in that span.

Players to watch: Gophers F Justin Kloos is on a four-game point streak (three goals, six assists) and is second on the team with 22 points. He is tied for first in the nation with three shorthanded goals. Linemate Tyler Sheehy leads the Gophers with 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists). Wolverines F Tony Calderone has six goals in his past eight games and has a team-high 10 goals this season. Freshman G Hayden Lavigne, one of three goalies sharing the net for Michigan, is tied for third in the nation in save percentage (.937).

Numbers: During the Gophers' four-game win streak, the penalty kill is 16-for-16, while the power play has six goals on 16 chances in the past three games. … The Wolverines lead the nation in blocked shots (18.5 per game) and are ranked 11th on the penalty kill (86.2 percent).

Injuries: Gophers D Ryan Lindgren, who sat out the gold-medal game of the world junior championships because of an illness, was briefly hospitalized for treatment after the tournament. Lindgren said he lost 10 pounds but has practiced this week and expects to play. … Several players have had the flu, which could affect coach Don Lucia's lineups this weekend.
