Former Minnesota Duluth football player Nate Bauer, 26, a member of two NCAA Division II national championship teams, died on Monday in an automobile accident.

Bauer, who graduated in 2012, was a running back for the Bulldogs.

Since last year, he had been a physical education teacher in Menomonie, Wis., his hometown.

In a statement on the UMD football web site, head coach Curt Wiese said: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Bauer family. Nate will be remembered as a tremendous person, student, and teammate and he had a way of making those around him better. He'll be greatly missed and forever a Bulldog."

Wiese was the team's offensive coordinator when Bauer played for the team.

Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on March 30 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Menomonie.
