Four games into the Marlene Stollings era for the Gopher women's basketball team, one thing is already certain: This squad can score — a lot.

Senior guard Rachel Banham had 32 points, three teammates also scored in double figures, and the Gophers topped 100 points for the second time in three home games, overwhelming Southern University 107-62 at Williams Arena on Tuesday night.

"Our team does a great job of sharing the ball," Stollings said. "… We're getting very good looks at the basket, and they did a great job of knocking those shots down tonight."

The Gophers (4-0) have a stern test coming up on Friday as they head to a tournament in Fort Myers, Fla., but Tuesday's victory would be better described as a high-energy shootaround.

They shot 50.6 percent from the field and put up 33 three-pointers on the night.

The Jaguars (1-4) didn't have a starter taller than 6-1, and lacked the size and physicality to slow down the Gophers.

The onslaught started early.Banham hit six of her first seven shots, scoring 19 points in the game's first 13 minutes and helping the Gophers to a a 43-16 lead.

"I was taking advantage of the space that I had, which usually doesn't happen," Banham said. "So, I was loving it, [and] I was just letting it fly."

The Gophers' put up 62 first-half points — the program's third-most in a half ever, and after a quick scoring flurry coming out of the break, the Gophers cleared their bench and methodically worked the clock.

Ten Gophers players scored — all 11 got into the game — and Minnesota held Southern (1-4) to just 31.6 percent shooting.

Sophomore post Amanda Zahui B. and senior forward Shae Kelley both registered their third double-doubles of the season, Zahui B. with 12 points and 15 rebounds, and Kelley with 16 and 10.

Kayla Hirt had 14 points, giving the Gophers four players in double figures for the fourth game in a row. Britney Washington had 24 points for the visitors.

Banham set a career high with eight three-point field goals. She finished 10-for-19 from the field, and also had five assists with no turnovers. She was honored before the tipoff for reaching 2,000 career points in the season opener.

After Tuesday, she is only 14 points away from moving into second place ahead of Carol Ann Shudlick on the program's all-time scoring list.

The Gophers play Vanderbilt (4-0) on Friday in the first round of the Gulf Coast Showcase, a tournament featuring some of the nation's top teams, including No. 3 Connecticut.

"We feel like we're a very strong team as well," Stollings said, "and we are excited to play against some of the other highly touted teams in the nation and see where we're at."
