Nationally sought quarterback Seth Green of East Ridge ended the speculation about his college plans without a word.

Green rose from his seat grabbed a green and black ball cap reading "Oregon" in yellow. A duck call could be heard over the clapping of teammates, friends and family on Wednesday in the cafeteria of the Woodbury high school.

Green, a four-star recruit listed by Rivals.com as the country's No. 8 dual-threat quarterback, gave a verbal commitment to the national power Ducks over finalists Minnesota and Michigan State

"It's a great feeling," said Green, who made up his mind over the weekend. "When I visited Oregon I felt something special. I could see myself there."

Green said last week he was leaning toward Oregon but that did not stop Minnesota from making one final push. Green met with Gophers coaches for several hours Tuesday night. Green's father, Bryan, was a Minnesota running back in the early 1990s.

"It's hard because Seth really likes Coach Kill and his staff," said Green's mother, Teresa. "I think he really wanted to go away to school and he really liked the college-town environment of Oregon."

Green, a 6-4, 210-pound junior, is his third season as the Raptors' starting quarterback. Heading into Wednesday's regular-season finale against Forest Lake, Green has accounted for 1,319 passing yards, 435 rushing yards and a combined 16 touchdowns.

"Since I've known him he's always been mature for his age," East Ridge coach Mike Pendino said. "That gives him a leg up on most kids. And he's got God-given athletic ability and a great work ethic. You combine all that and it's a measure for success."

Verbal commitments aren't binding; Green cannot sign a letter of intent until February 2016. College recruits "flipping" their commitment from one school to another, and schools backing off, have been the unintended consequence of early commitments.

But Green is not anticipating any turmoil between now and signing day. Pendino said he doesn't expect Green or Oregon to waver in the face of unexpected adversity.

Improving as a quarterback and leading East Ridge to playoff success are the focus, Green said.

"His mind will be at ease now," Pendino said. "He's just going to play and be Seth."
