Gophers replay

TCU 30, Gophers 7

The recap: The Gophers committed five turnovers and fell behind 30-0 before Chris Streveler hit Maxx Williams with a fourth-quarter touchdown pass. Streveler had come on to replace Mitch Leidner, who struggled for three quarters with a brace on his left knee.

What was learned: David Cobb played despite barely practicing all week because of a sprained ankle. With Cobb and Leidner both limited by injury, the Gophers offense sputtered most of the day against a tough TCU defense.

YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED:

• Senior middle linebacker Damien Wilson still leads the Big Ten with 35 tackles. He had 11 in this game, despite playing the second half with an injured left ankle.

• Senior running back Donnell Kirkwood got shaken up and finished the game with just one carry for minus-1 yard.

• Freshman running back Berkley Edwards also had a limited role, with no receptions and three carries for 6 yards.

• Junior receiver KJ Maye was a rare bright spot, with receptions of 31 and 34 yards.

Records: Gophers 2-1, San Jose State 1-1

The skinny: San Jose State defeated North Dakota 42-10 before losing at Auburn 59-13. Blake Jurich, who replaced prolific quarterback David Fales, injured a forearm against Auburn, but a bye week gave the Spartans time to heal. The Gophers beat San Jose State 43-24 last year at home. Fales passed for 439 yards, but with Philip Nelson injured, Mitch Leidner earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. Leidner rushed for 151 yards and four touchdowns, and Cobb added 128 yards, as the Gophers rushed for 361 as a team.
