The Gophers softball team’s season is over.

Minnesota lost 3-0 to Hawaii on Saturday night in the losers’ bracket of an NCAA Regional in Seattle. That was the same score the Rainbow Wahine beat the Gophers the day before. And again, it was Kaia Parnaby in the circle who shut out the Gophers on a three-hitter.

Hawaii had six hits and scored two runs in the third and one in the fourth off Sara Moulton.

Earlier in the day, the Gophers stayed alive by beating Portland State 5-0 on Moulton’s one-hitter with 13 strikeouts. Kaitlyn Richardson drove in two of the runs on a sacrifice fly and a single.

Mavericks in final

Lucas Skjefte’s RBI double in the bottom of the ninth gave top-seeded Minnesota State Mankato a 4-3 victory over St. Cloud State in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Central Regional at Franklin Rogers Park in Mankato. The Mavericks (38-8), the last unbeaten team in the regional, will play the Huskies again at noon Sunday. They would have to lose twice to be eliminated. St. Cloud State advanced by beating Southern Arkansas 5-4 in the losers’ bracket final late Saturday.

Repeat marathon win

Chris Erichsen, of Minneapolis, won the ninth annual Fargo (N.D.) Marathon in 2 hours, 20 minutes, 42 seconds. Erichsen, 27, also won the race in 2012 with a course record of 2:19.55. Nichole Provath, of Northfield, won the women’s title in 2:50:49.

About 2,000 runners started. Race officials said security was increased in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings last month.

Etc.

Alise Post, of St. Cloud, won her third consecutive race in the USA Cycling Elite BMX National Championships in Chula Vista, Calif. “It’s a great accomplishment,” Post said. “On top of that, I made my momma proud. She’s been watching from home and wasn’t able to make it, being in the hospital. I’m happy to have won for her.”

• Gophers golfer Erik Van Rooyen tied for fifth in the NCAA Regional in Columbus, Ohio with a 215 total.
