First-line wings Maryanne Menefee and Amanda Kessel each had a goal and an assist and freshman center Hannah Brandt added two assists as the Gophers women's hockey team beat Wisconsin 4-1 on Saturday at Ridder Arena before a sellout crowd of 3,400 to stay unbeaten at 17-0.

Kessel has 47 points this season, Brandt 45. They rank 1-2 in the nation in scoring.

The top-ranked Gophers (11-0 in the WCHA) scored all their goals in the second period. With the Gophers up 2-0, Sarah Davis scored an unassisted goal and later had an assist as Becky Kortum got the Gophers' fourth goal.

Gophers goalie Noora Raty stopped 22 shots and had a shutout until Brianna Decker scored her 17th goal of the season for the 10th-ranked Badgers (10-5-2, 6-5-2 WCHA) at 6 minutes, 39 seconds of the third period.

The Gophers outshot Wisconsin 41-23 in extending their NCAA record for consecutive victories to 25. Their last loss was 2-1 in overtime to North Dakota on Feb. 17, 2012.

This game was a rematch of the 2012 NCAA title game, which the Gophers won 4-2. The Gophers were 3-1-1 vs. Wisconsin last season and lead the all-time series 32-26-8.

The Badgers had won seven of their previous eight games. The teams play again at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridder.

U swimmers dominate Gophers men's and women's swimmers won six events on Friday night on the first day of the six-team Jean Freeman Invitational at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The individual winners for the Gophers were Kyler Van Swol in the 500-yard freestyle (4:33.40), Heidi Busack in the 50 freestyle (23.92) and, in the 200 individual medley, Max Cartwright (1:55.54) and Jessica Plant (2:05.20).

The Gophers men also took first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:21.49) and the 400 medley relay (3:22.84). The invitational continued Saturday night.

Concordia advances Concordia (St. Paul) advanced to the NCAA Division II volleyball national championships with a 3-1 win over Nebraska-Kearney (35-3) on Saturday evening in the Central Region final. The top-ranked Golden Bears (30-4) will play Wingate University in the national quarterfinals on Thursday in Pensacola, Fla.

The five-time defending national champions were led by Ellie Duffy with 20 kills.
