Phil Miller's short takes

• Looks like Ohio State and Penn State have something to play for after all. According to espn.com, the Big Ten has ruled that the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions, though disqualified from the league's championship game and a bowl, are eligible for the Leaders Division championship. Sure, it wouldn't make up for being excluded from the postseason, but it allows those schools to play for a trophy. Think Urban Meyer will have his players believing it's football's Holy Grail?

• "DENARD IS SOOOO BAD! And it makes me feel so good," tweeted Michigan State safety Kyle Artinain. "I can play quarterback for the school in blue," taunted Spartans linebacker Jamal Lyles. Yes, nobody enjoyed Michigan's blowout loss to Alabama, and Denard Robinson's awful night directing the Wolverines offense, more than Spartans players who celebrated on Twitter. Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio was irate at his players, and with good reason: The battle of Michigan is in Ann Arbor on Oct. 20, and I'm guessing the Wolverines will remember the tweets.

• Queue the quarterback controversy: When starter Caleb TerBush was suspended for Purdue's opener for breaking unspecified team rules, Robert Marve filled in with 297 yards and three touchdowns. TerBush reclaims his job this week, but already Boilermakers fans are nervously wondering if he should.
