Greetings for a final time from Target Center, where the Wolves won their home opener over Detroit. It's interesting that coach Flip Saunders, who has talked since camp began about developing youth, went with the veterans down the stretch of this game. But, as he said afterward, this was a much-needed victory, coming one night after Wednesday's loss. So maybe it was a night for the young players to watch at crunch time.

Here are some thoughts from the game:

--Thaddeus Young continued his hot start to the season. He scored another 19 points tonight, including a late three-pointer that broke a tie-game.

--Center Nikola Pekovic, who didn' t play particularly well Wednesday, shook off a slow start Thursday to finish strong. Pekovic had 17 points and 10 rebounds on a night when he and Pistons big man Andre Drummond were going at it in a big way; Young said it was like watching two grizzly bears fighting.

--Kevin Martin returned, but came off the bench. And, interestingly, he said he was OK with that, considering his ankle is still sore. Martin scored 12 points, with nine coming in the fourth quarter.

--A night after he committed seven turnovers in Memphis, Ricky Rubio had eight assists and just one turnover tonight. And that goes with 11 points and seven rebounds.

--Rookie Andrew Wiggins started slowly again. But, in the third quarter, he showed real flashes of brilliance. He scored all eight of his points in the quarter, on 4-for-5 shooting. On one play, he launched towards the basket, was fouled, but was able to finish off the shot and score. Just a hint of what's to come.

The Wolves will take Friday off, then will host Chicago on Saturday night. Hope everyone has a nice night and a pleasant tomorrow.
