Jerry Zgoda missed the entire Kevin Garnett era, but he's back covering the Timberwolves after working the beat for their first four seasons two decades ago. In between, he covered a bit of everything: Gopher men's and women's basketball and NCAA athletics, golf, outdoor recreation, sports media and a little Vikings and Twins.

Coaching update: Adelman speaks to Wolves by phone, not in person

Now that the weekend is over and Week 2 of the Timberwolves' search has begun in full...

I'm hearing Rick Adelman didn't come to town on Saturday to interview with David Kahn and Glen Taylor as planned, but instead talked by phone with Kahn at some length about the job.

Translated, that probably means he has some interest in the job, but just how much -- or what factors he is weighing -- is the big question.

Whatever interest he has surprises many around the league who figure he'll only come back to coach a veteran team or expected him to take a breather from basketball for awhile during a summer when he has a couple of big family weddings to attend.

I've tried reaching him several times, but without any success.

If he indeed is sincerely interested, I'd expect he'd still come to town at some point to meet with Taylor. I don't believe Taylor was part of the discussion between Kahn and Adelman that I've been told took place over the weekend.

It's looking like it could be a pretty quiet week. The Wolves plan to talk with Larry Brown too, but that might not happen this week because of a death in his family.

Kahn also probably will interview one or two candidates as well before this first phase is through.

A colleague in San Jose -- Tim Kawakami from the Mercury News -- tweeted an idea this morning that he said is a match made in heaven: The Wolves and Isiah Thomas.

I'm pretty sure he was joking.

At least I hope he was.

Whaddya think of that?
