A light snow Thursday afternoon slicked the roads and forced the closure of the Lake Street Bridge after multiple accidents, a Minneapolis police spokesman said.

Traffic is flowing as normal now.

The accidents began as the weather deteriorated in the hours leading up to the evening rush hour, and by 5:15 p.m. police were posted at both ends, turning vehicles away, said John Elder, Minneapolis police spokesman.

It wasn't immediately known if any of the crashes caused serious injuries. Roads on either side of the bridge were heavily congested, drivers reported.

Sand trucks were on their way, Elder added.
