Clete Thomas is coming off a strong defensive series in Detroit. On Thursday, he easily threw out Prince Fielder in the second inning as he tried to stretch a single into a double, and he raced in to make a diving catch of Omar Infante’s sinking fly to end the seventh. “Clete was tracking them down,” Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. “Clete had a heck of a series.’’
... Wilkin Ramirez is batting .381 over his last six games.
Cleveland’s bullpen has thrown 10⅔ scoreless innings over the last two games, including 8⅓ on Tuesday. Over the last 38 games, Indians relievers have posted a 2.73 ERA. ... Lefthander Rich Hill has stranded 52 runners, tops in the American League. ... Veteran DH Jason Giambi is two hits shy of 2,000 for his career. ... Cleveland is 2½ games out of the AL wild-card spot.
