Deer hunter dies after being shot near Bemidji

BEMIDJI, Minn. - Authorities in Beltrami County say a Bemidji man has died after being shot while hunting on public land.
The sheriff's office says it received a call Saturday at 9 a.m. that a deer hunter had been shot by another hunter in Turtle River Township, about nine miles northeast of Bemidji.
A Bemidji Pioneer report ( http://bit.ly/TC0N7G) says rescue officials found the man dead at the scene.
Authorities say the shooter was a Bemidji man who knew the victim but wasn't hunting with him.
Chief Deputy Ernie Beitel said the man who fired the gun was not carrying a cellphone and left the victim to report the incident. He found someone with a phone who called dispatchers.
The sheriff's office says an autopsy is pending.The shooter was released pending an investigation.
