The Vikings draft is now complete. Owners of three seventh-round picks, the Vikings selected N.C. State linebacker Audie Cole at No. 210 and defensive end Trevor Guyton at 219 and traded the 211th selection to Tennessee for a sixth-round pick in 2013.
Addressing defensive needs in the final round, the Vikings will bring Cole to the Twin Cities after working closely with him with the North squad at the Senior Bowl in January. Cole is a reliable playmaker, a high-energy linebacker who is rarely out of place. There are some questions as to whether he the elite speed and athleticism to amount to much in the NFL. But he fits the profile for what the Vikings have been after: high-character players with promise and passion.
Cole was a Butkus Award semifinalist last season when he had 108 tackles and 5.5 sacks.
Guyton, meanwhile, is 6-foot-3 and 285 pounds, a disruptive presence and sure tackler who's praised for his ability to get off the ball quickly. Guyton was the fifth defensive player and first defensive lineman the Vikings took in this draft.
Vikings GM Rick Spielman will meet the media shortly to address the team's draft as a whole. Check back soon for more ...
