The Twins are 4-4 vs. Kansas City this year with 10 games remaining. Weather could be a factor in this series, as the forecast calls for temps of 97 degrees today and 96 the next two days. Bonser has gone nine starts without a victory, but he held the Royals to two runs in seven innings in a no-decision last Wednesday, when the teams played only an hour after the Interstate 35W bridge collapse. Bonser's last victory came June 10 against Washington.
Kansas City had won 18 of 27 games before losing two of three at the Metrodome last week and then getting pounded by a combined score of 31-14 in a three-game sweep at New York this past weekend. The Royals are 3-27 at Yankee Stadium since the start of the 2000 season. "The best thing about today," Royals right fielder Mark Teahen said Sunday, "is we don't have to play the Yankees tomorrow."
