Minnetonka school administrators have issued a press release addressing the situation with John Hedstrom. The athletic director/boys' basketball coach was placed on an indefinite administrative leave last week. He will not return during the basketball season; that much we know. Details for his ouster remain sketchy, and today's press release sheds no light on why this took place. It does point out, however, that this decision "does not involve student or student-athlete conduct"

Here is the release from the school district:

On Wednesday, January 20, Minnetonka School District Superintendent Dennis Peterson placed Minnetonka basketball coach John Hedstrom on administrative leave from his head coaching position for the remainder of the 2010 high school basketball season, including tournaments. During coach Hedstrom's absence, assistant coach Joe Burger will serve as interim head coach. Coach Hedstrom remains on an indefinite administrative leave from his position as Assistant Principal for Student Activities.

Dr. Peterson issued the following statement: "It is important for the student-athletes that we immediately resolve the status of their head coach for the remainder of the season so they can move forward and focus on making the most of their high school experience. They are a dedicated and resilient team. We want to provide them the opportunity to focus on their individual and collective goals and move beyond any distraction that this situation may cause. Although I cannot share more specific information about the matter at this time, I want to assure our community--and those speculating about this situation from afar--that the matter does not involve student or student-athlete conduct."

Because of the restriction of the Minnesota Data Practices Act and other privacy laws, no additional comments regarding this situation will be made by any other school district representative at this time.

That's the end of the statement from the school district.
