Vang Tou Ger Vue of St. Paul was sentenced Wednesday to serve 21 years in prison for the gang-related rape of a 14-year-old girl a year ago.

In addition, Ramsey County Judge Gregg Johnson ordered Vue to remain on conditional release for a decade after he gets out of prison, and he must register as a predatory sex offender for the rest of his life.

He's the latest of nine defendants to be sentenced in the attack last November in a vacant house on St. Paul's East Side.

St. Paul police and prosecutors pushed for long sentences against the nine, who had ties to the True Blood (TB22) street gang -- one of the city's biggest and most violent Hmong gangs. Not only were they charged with criminal sexual conduct and conspiring to sexually assault, but also with kidnapping and committing a crime for the benefit of a gang.

Before sentencing Vue, two days after his 20th birthday, the judge referred to a letter the victim wrote, saying she's been traumatized. Johnson urged Vue to do something positive with his life and get an education in prison.

He sexually penetrated the girl before someone yelled that police were coming and everyone ran from the vacant house in the 200 block of White Bear Avenue.

Johnson ordered that for first-degree criminal sexual conduct, Vue would serve 14 years and four months, with credit for 241 days served. For kidnapping, he'll serve four years and nine months. And for committing a crime for the benefit of a gang, he'll serve another two years.

A rape-conspiracy count was dismissed.

Awaiting trial are Mang Yang, 24; Kong Meng Vang, 38, and Van Chai Xiong, 19.
