A man who was shot and killed during a struggle with police that left an officer wounded west of the Twin Cities has been identified as a 49-year-old with no fixed address.

Luverne R. Christensen was fatally shot late Sunday afternoon in a home in Hutchinson after authorities responded to a report of a verbal disturbance in the 500 block of Harmony Lane, according to the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA).

A police officer was shot in the leg after "a struggle ensued" with Christensen and flown to Hennepin County Medical Center with a noncritical injury, Police Chief Dan Hatten said Sunday night.

The BCA has yet to say who shot Christensen or who wounded the officer in the two-story house. Hatten said Christensen was the only civilian in the home at the time. The agency said it continues to interview witnesses and those involved in the incident.

While authorities said Christensen had no permanent address, state records show he has lived in Hutchinson and other communities nearby over the years.
